Sometimes, you get conditioned to expect people to blame others for their disappointments. To his credit, ex-Dodger Daryle Ward, now with the Pirates on a non-guaranteed contract, is pointing the finger for his poor 2003 at himself. "It was a big learning experience for me," he told the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. "I had a bad attitude and that didn't help. This game is tough and you have to know how to enjoy yourself and be a team guy. I was selfish. The manager and I got into it, things went south and I got disciplined. I think I'm a lot more mature than I was last year." My follow-up question would have asked why he had a bad attitude. But this is enough. We all move on.
