Well, I'm off to Chicago this week. Weather.com says to enjoy thunderstorms most of the week. The Cubs leave town as I get in so I can't take advantage of the Tribune box seats either. Oh well. Maybe some time away from the Dodgers will be a good thing.

Oops, posted in prev thread without seeing new chat.

Why did I still think it was a John Ford film? Weird. I forgot that he and Fonda had a big fight about the film. Okay, it's one of my favorite Mervyn Leroy films.

Did anyone remember the 80s TV remake? Robert Hays, Kevin Bacon, Charles Durning... Howard Hesseman as doc!

It was, ah, not as good as the original.

The thing that worries me about tonight's game is mostly that Joe Morgan will be involved.

ESPN presents a new Dodger drinking game:

If you want to get inebriated:

Drink everytime Joe Morgan talks about Jose Reyes' tools.

Drink when they talk about the Dodgers' offensive struggles the past 10 days.

...when Joe Morgan talks about how the Reds are doing, and Dusty Baker.

...when Morgan gets a name wrong for a Dodgers' young player.

...when Jon Miller says a name in overenunciated Espanol.

...when Morgan mispronounces Hiroki Kuroda.

If you want to stay relatively sober:

Drink when Morgan mentions Andy LaRoche or is aware of his existence.

...when Morgan proves he's aware of Rafael Furcal's injury.

To stay completely sober:

Drink when Morgan mentions someone's OPS or VORP.

Where is Delwyn? This has been bugging me for awhile: With Jones and his contract on the operating table, what is our latest excuse as to why Young doesn't get get a few starts ahead of Pierre? I know, for a month or so, by many measures, Pierre was a productive - even above average - offensive player. That month ended about 30 games and many one-pitch outs ago. He's regressed to his norm, which is a so-so- reserve. (And, of course, I say this with nothing but pure love in my heart for the man himself) Meanwhile, Young languishes, with minor league (and very brief major league) stats that suggest he should get an extended shot. And if somebody says "outfield defense" I'll spontaneously combust.

Finally saw "There Will Be Blood" on PPV Marty. The movie kept me entertained thru out but it just didn't do it for me, I will say this though, Daniel Day Lewis is an extraordinary actor.

probably the best thing about the movie was his acting (to me)

Here is some Schmidt stuff>>>Schmidt increased his workload from 45 pitches in a rehab start on Monday, this time allowing four hits and two runs while striking out three and walking three. Of his 65 pitches, 37 went for strikes.

"Every outing I feel a lot smoother mechanically," said Schmidt, in his 11th month of recovery from major right shoulder surgery. "I think I'm still off quite a bit. But it's just still a work in progress. I bounced back quicker this last time, so that's a good sign."

For the second straight start Schmidt's fastball topped off at 91 mph, hitting that mark 12 times on Saturday.<<<

I am guessing, however, that Torre would feel naked without the traditional lead-off guy that he sees in JP. So unless he gets really creative and sticks the Bison there, with Rafi out I don't see Pee Wee getting onto the field.

The combination of needing good news and imagining the D's in their present state facing Santana is not comforting--maybe a good long fishing trip first will help.
I also know more than one group of people who were planning on going to this game but had to give up when ESPN picked it up. There's no way you want to take kids from here to a night game in Queens.
I was actually pretty lucky to get the game yesterday, and it was a good game. What can I say, I just didn't get the result I wanted.

I'm wearing my DodgerThoughts t-shirt to tonights game!

I was in the Field level seats on Friday with just a Dodger hat and got some abuse, not too bad...
I guess leaping out of my seat and pumping my fist when Chan Ho Park struck out Wright didn't help either.

Even though we're facing Santana, I'm feeling optimistic. Now that starting pitching isn't an issue, I think we're just a few hot batters from a win streak.

Enjoy the game!

The thing is, why hasn't Ned/Torre/Bowa told him that yet? Why is Management waiting for the young players to figure out how to win rather than simply telling the young players the secret?

Interesting how the Rockies and Dodgers were so keen to sign Juan Castro. And Castro signed with the Rockies because he thought he would have a better chance of making it to the majors.

And the Rockies have lost TWO starting shortstops and have a gaping hole at second base. And they still haven't called up Castro.

Did he get hurt? Or is he just Juan Castro?

OT but maybe good for a chuckle or two, which Dodger fans need right now--

From the give a contractor a cookie dept., or maybe the contractor version of Goldilocks and the three bears...

A Washington Post survey of issues people had with contractors found 64% of respondents generally pleased. Twenty percent were not. In addition to the usual concerns about getting the job done well and on time, there were the following concerns==

---30% said that while fixing one thing, a contractor broke another

---14% of survey repondents said a contractor had asked them to help

---3% said a contractor had asked them out on a date

---4% said a contractor took food or drink from the fridge without asking

---And 2% said a contractor took a nap on their bed or couch

No percentages given for how many were the obnoxious cheap seat fans at Dodger Stadium referred to here from time to time.

The bright side of Loney's hitting is that he hit about .272 the first half of last year in Vegas and then stepped it up in the second half for the Dodgers.

The Portland pitcher struck out the side versus Vegas in the 1st inning, including LaRoche. The announcers spoke a little about Andy's playing 2nd again and the little nuances he's working on, but so far he's looked pretty comfortable over there. I still think DeWitt would be better at 2nd and LaRoche at third, but whatever works.

Jason Johnson looking to go 8-2! I might be wrong but I think he had some kind of out in his contract if he's not with the big club this month. Doesn't look likely. Anyone know for sure?

Hi everyone! I'm back after being gone for a couple of days (I doubt anyone missed me). I had a great time yesterday on a trip to SF.

I had a chance to really get to explore AT&T park during the Giants game vs the Padres. Everywhere you go you get great views, whether its the view of the skyline from the upper concourse, or the marina along the arcade. The food here is really quite excellent, and the Giants have to have the best popcorn in MLB.

Is it sacriligious to say AT&T is the best ballpark in the NL West?

Kent, 2B

Loney, 1B

125 - Yah. They have good sausages there, though. Even chicken! Er, except, for Bob's sake, they're terrible. And that place smells really bad. And it's horribly designed. It's a pit! No wait, that's how I feel about the Giants.

I may end up going to the A's-Giants series in a couple of weeks and will have to root loudly for the A's.

137 - In that SF-SD game, after the Padres scored 2 to take the lead in extras, and then the Giants came back to score two to tie it, Hoffman not only blew it, but much to the amazement of the Giants announcers (and me) threw Fred Lewis about 6 or 7 straight fastballs. No change. And pretty flat n' fat. Not an impressive inning.

Ozzie (of OzzieBall fame) is unhappy again.

"I expect [general manager] Kenny [Williams] to do something Tuesday. Because if we don't do anything Tuesday, there's [going to be] a lot of change in the lineup. That's all I'm going to say about the offense," said Guillen, whose comments were spiced with an occasional expletive.

I get no sense that Ned looks for opportunities such as this upon which to pounce.

This is one of those "why was I listening to Fox Sports Radio" moments. A couple hours ago, I was driving and flipping around on the AM dial and stumbled across some NBA Finals talk on FSR. Not sure who the guest/caller was (I think it was the NBA TV fantasy host but not 100% sure), but he mentioned that it was amazing that the Lakers were able to close out the Western Conference Finals in Game 5 at AT&T Center in San Antonio.

Then co-host Lincoln Kennedy (the former NFL lineman) asked how good the Lakers will be next year when Ernest Bynum comes back from injury. I hope Andrew doesn't fumble.
