They can't win the season series this year so the Dodgers streak of not winning the season series against the Braves stretches back to Aught Two.

Sabathia comes out of the game in Milwaukee after six innings, giving up 3 runs (2 earned), walking 5 and striking out 5.

From the ItD (Rawitch) Blog:

"We just got done doing a live web chat with Matt Kemp and throughout Delwyn Young was chiming in. Hopefully some of you got the chance to join in... there were more than 1,000 questions, which might be an all-time high. Pretty cool. If you missed it, the transcript will be up on the site soon."

Has it been noted that the Braves' pitcher's name sounds like something George Lucas would dream up?
2008-07-08 19:13:55
9.   DodgerBakers
Schmidt is not off to a good start giving up a triple and a homerun in 2/3 of an inning so far. He did throw as fast as 92, though. Seems to be averaging around 88-90 or so though from the sound of the guy calling the game.
2008-07-08 19:14:53
10.   Bob Timmermann
9
Is the guy calling the game giving you the pitch speed or are you trying to determine the speed through a Doppler shift sort of thing?
2008-07-08 19:16:07
11.   Bob Timmermann
Are the Braves wearing the all blue caps tonight or are they using the ones with the red bills?
2008-07-08 19:18:00
12.   El Lay Dave
10 Doppler shift? Is that where the infielders get scrunched close together on one side (where the batted ball might move fast) and far apart on the other side?

16.   natepurcell
Crud, Kemp did so good until that last pitch.
2008-07-08 19:19:15
17.   Eric Enders
After this past weekend, I'm prepared to support a resolution that no one but the Dodgers is ever allowed to wear a blue cap again.
2008-07-08 19:19:57
18.   scareduck
Re Eric Enders' comment about the Harden trade, I don't think this is a win now deal for Oakland; Gallagher was up and down with the Cubs this year. There's probably a good argument he'll do well in Oakland's cavernous home park, but I don't see how he's a "win now" deal. He definitely improves into next year, though.

From the Matt Kemp chat:

rmlvr55: Hey Matt, Do you have any pre-game rituals? And keep up the great work your an amazing outfielder :)

Kemp: Me and Jeff Kent get together and listen to Lil' Wayne to get pumped up!

Even the Cubs and Red Sox?
2008-07-08 19:20:32

11 Definitely the doppler effect. I can detect these sort of things using my bionic ears.

No, he gives out the pitch speed every so often.

There you go.
2008-07-08 19:28:24
30.   El Lay Dave
Despite yielding a walk, Billingsley threw a 10-pitch first inning. The Braves must like to hack. And that was without Francoeur coming up.
2008-07-08 19:30:36
31.   jujibee
Loney is looking pretty darn good over there at 1st. He's been a defensive wiz the last few weeks.

22 I'm watching the game with Schrödinger's cat purring in my lap. Does that help?
2008-07-08 19:31:46
33.   El Lay Dave
The Braves are 42-48, 6 out in the east, 8 out for the wild card. If they become sellers as the deadline/s approach/es, do they try to deal Teixeira? There's no way they can get back nearly as much as they gave up to get him, is there?
2008-07-08 19:32:27

41 I was kidding but I realize that was kind of baiting, in which case I apologize. I just wish Loney hadn't dribbled out right at that moment.

take out the extra "an".

Also of note, if either team pitches a shutout, then Dodger Stadium will have sole possession of the most consecutive games with a shutout record.

89 - They gambled with a hit and run and then the ball was hit well, but then caught. Francouer has a great arm, too. I don't know if it was a blunder as much as just a gamble that they got burned on.

A little late on this comment, but Russell looked super lazy on that throw to 2nd base - really poor footwork. I think he deserves a true day off one of these days.

I'm thinking the DBacks are wishing they'd held on to Carlos Quentin. Just a wild guess.

If I were them I'd skip the thoughts of Barry Bonds and go for Kenny Lofton, who is still available, is always pretty solid, and unlike Bonds at least can field. But on the other hand I want the DBacks to fail, so I'm not sure why I'm giving them advice.

Every metric I looked at from last year had Bonds's defense remarkably un-awful. He looks like a stalagmite made of nails, but it's possible he's still a decent fielder.

I'm a HUGE Russel fan & would call you out on it IF it wasn't true but I agree, this is the first time I've ever seen him look that TIRED.

Torre needs to give Russell a few days off, he won't though, one thing I've noticed about Torre is that he is not an observing manager.

My goal for the Dodgers is for them to be over .500 by the All-Star break. If they are, which is a very manageable goal, then I will be relatively satisfied given how things looked a month ago.
