Back to Work

Hope you had a nice weekend and your air conditioning worked. My best wishes to the people of Florida, for whom air conditioning is the least of their worries.

  • Matt Youmans of the Las Vegas Review-Journal reports on the end of the 51s season. Chin-Feng Chen, Joe Thurston, Jose Flores, Antonio Perez and Joe Thurston get callups; Rick Bell and Luis Garcia don't. "Luis had a really good year. It's a tough thing and I feel bad for him," Las Vegas manager Terry Kennedy said. "But like I told him, most of these guys who are going up aren't going to play, either." Kennedy told Youmans he is not sure he will return to the team next season.

  • Two ex-Dodger pitchers, Andy Ashby and Pedro Astacio, returned to the majors after long rehabiliations: Ashby with the Padres, Astacio with the Red Sox. So happy to see Astacio, one of my all-time favorite Dodgers, back in it.

  • Astacio's new teammate, Dave Roberts, is the subject of a nice feature by Rob Bradford of the Lowell Sun.

  • Peter Gammons of ESPN.com discusses the post-2004 free agent market. Save this for future shopping reference.

  • Comment status: comments have been closed. Baseball Toaster is now out of business.
