Farewell, March Madness - it's April
2005-04-04 20:30
by Jon Weisman

After Stanford got eliminated in the first round, I didn't even look at my March Madness picks until last night.

Turns out, I did pretty well. Not gonna win any pools (only entered ESPN's free Tourney Challenge anyway), but I ended up with 45 winners out of 63 (25/11/4/2/2/1), including a correct pick of North Carolina over Illinois in the final, with North Carolina winning 72-67. Margin of victory exactly right - almost the exact final score.

Insignificant, I know - but who else am I gonna tell but you?

Seventeen hours to first pitch ...

I had Arizona beating Syracuse in the final.

Let's just say I watched dispassionately.

Well, college hoops are over, Jon is not on vacation this year, and the Dodgers get swept in the Freeway Series...just like last year, prior to making the Giants eat their lunch. All is right with the world.

Maybe you should come work for us. You would've won our pool handily.

I think I speak for everyone when I say I hope you are dead wrong on your NL West prediction.

I just noticed on Baseball Reference, Derek Lowe is listed at 6'6" and 170 lbs. The Dodgers website has him at 6'6" and 210.

I bet he weighs more than that. I'm 6'5" and it's hard for me to stay under 210.

There you go, bragging about your IQ again :)

I remember when I was in grad school, I got on a scale and I weighed 170.

I looked really skinny. It's amazing how much weight you can lose when you don't have money to buy food.

Caught mono in high school, lost 20 lbs. 6'2" and weighed 130. Luckily enough, I got a Japanese kite comapany to sponsor me.

I'm 5"10" and once weighed 215. I finally got it down to 165 and stayed there for 18 years, then suddenly and mysteriously dropped to 135. I looked like death warmed over. Fortunately I'm back up to 165 again.

We got anyone who's gonna hit 3 home runs tomorrow?

My boy Choi, maybe.

By the way, anybody see the 6-4-2 post about Nakamura potentially voiding his contract? Hopefully he stays. He may be useful.

Yeah. Really wouldn't blame him...just hope he's persuaded otherwise.

Anyone know if KFWB.COM broadcasts games live? or do they just cut out the games...?

According to the Times the Dodgers will be selling caps this year that say, "Los Angeles Dodgers of Los Angeles".

Did you go the site, Albert? They'll be carrying the games live.

In pink and blue, Langhorne. Think I'll pass on paying $25 a pop to play politics for them.

#10 - Nakamura accepted his assignment to AAA, finally getting that he'd be the first callup when the Dodgers went back to 11 pitchers.

I had Illinois beating North Carolina in the final. Otherwise, my scores were 25/8/4/2/2/0. Jon, you had a great 2nd round! Gonzaga and Duke killed my bracket.

I can't wait for 1st pitch!

I don't think KFWB.com is going to stream the games live. MLB.com has the exclusive rights to that. I wouldn't go there counting on that site to work.
