A statue is a good idea, but where are you going to put it so everybody sees it? Dodger Stadium doesn't have a common entrance.

the statue idea is great, but it would be bad form to make it anyone other than jackie. i love koufax and realize robinson didn't play in la, but...

I read a blog by a New Yorker who thinks the Mets new stadium should be called Jackie Robinson Field.

I wanted to break my monitor (I was at work).

I think Koufax is more deserving of an LA statue than Jackie.
There already is a statue of Jackie Robinson at Jackie Robinson Stadium at UCLA.

I know that one has to beware of small sample sizes, but the Dodger offense has definately looked good so far this year. That seems to have more to do with Depo (Drew, Saenz, Ledee) than Flanders, although Mueller has done well so far. I hope this keeps up, whoever is responsible.

So listening to the Pittsburg announcers is a bit of a job. They're not terrible "Homers",
but they have pointed out that Furcal is error prone, and practically jumped on the mike when Bernitz homered. I have pretty much convinced myself that Furcals error rate is due to his excellent range.

Long day for the Natoinals at their home opener. Poor Ryan Zimmerman, strikes out on three pitches with the bases loaded to end the game in front of many family and friends. (Not that it wasn't well over in all but name already.)

It didn't hurt the Mets, who own the Nationals but intentionally walking anyone -- even Carlos Delgado -- to get to David Wright strikes me as curious. (There were already two outs when it happened so no DP issue.)

Cheney was loudly and sustainedly booed. He was quick on and off the field. I missed all this as I was on stern orders to get a hotdog and the lines were unholy -- 25 minutes in line, even before the game started.

I don't know what it says about the VP's status in the administration right now, but for some reason they decided not to go with the metal detectors . . .

197 Oh, I hear you. When Little pulled Lowe in Phila the other day, even though it was only 80 something pitches, it was a joyful moment. Frankly, unless he just deadly fears his bullpen (which Litle doesn't, he seems happy willing enough to leave Hamulack and Carter in to fry or fly as well), I'd think more managers would just protect their own hides with a "better too soon than too late" approach. Not sure what the winning pct. is for 5th starters, I think the Padres went 0-for the 2nd half of 2004 without a win in that spot.

That said, bad loss but what have we learned in a week is that this team can score runs but until they can get 6 innings out of their starters and find some answers in their bullpen, they are going to have to score 6-7 runs a game. Sad thing is they are averaging that are they are at .500.

When Nomar gets back, we have two situations:

Hey Jon, probably he told you or you otherwise saw but, if not, that dc blogger whose hit-and-run lament I quoted in the comments of your hit-and-run post has now excerpted your post over at his site. Not a big deal, but he says you explained the issue "beautifullY," and I know you like that sort of thing.

8 strikeouts in 4 innings for Billingsley. Put him in the rotation and he's our #2.

267 The new seats are definitely an upgrade, and I think they're about as much as we could ask for from all-weather plastic seats. I'm personally a fan of the color scheme, but the outfield wall might be a bit much for some.

Rotoworld:

Bill Mueller went 4-for-4 with two homers and three RBI against the Pirates on Tuesday.
Both homers came off Ian Snell. Mueller, not having any difficulties in his return to the NL West, is 13-for-27 with a 1/3 K/BB ratio. It's just too bad he's a Dodger. He's practically guaranteed of making a trip to the DL prior to Memorial Day. Apr. 11 - 10:02 pm et

I'm not watching the Laker game, but it looks as if they just scored 33 points in the 3rd quarter, with only 1 of those points being scored by Kobe.

Odom has a triple-double after 3 quarters.

Yeah, because he looks great compared to Ken the moron Shamrock. Shamrock has no technical skills and can not teach these fighters anything. He is a useless coach. Tito brought in good assistant coaches and has a better training routine then Ken. Tito also seems to care about these fighters and wants to get to know them. Shamrock just cares about beatint Tito.
