Not only is Jamie Moyer still in the MLB (which is ridiculous enough in itself), but he has thrown 6 interesting innings so far today.

PS: Congratulations to Jon and Mrs. Jon

Clark playing today, tired old Ethier gets a rest. I swear if I were an outfielder I'd be real tempted to step on his knee on a close flyball. Or have an accident in the shower. I'll bet a million fans would gladly kick in a buck apiece to send him looking for Jimmy Hoffa. Now next game the North Carolina genius wil sit Kent, Nomar, and Gonsalves all at the same time. You know, a 12 year old kid could do a wholly adequate job of managing a big league club, and do it better than most of these old men drawing the paychecks.

Andre Ethier woke up feeling like a driver who had been rear-ended on the freeway.

Man Wells is got nothing. His good points as a pitcher: he doesn't walk that many hitters. Of course, that is primarily because most of them get a hit in the first couple pitches.

57 I just hope that alcohol was not a factor in his death.

I'm not saying this to criticize KP, since what he said is something others frequently say, but I don't get why this would be something to hope for. Dead is dead, and it's horrible for his family and friends no matter what the cause.

Maybe I'm just too literal minded. I could see an alcohol industry representative sincerely hoping that his product wasn't going to be implicated. Conversely, if it turns out to have been a factor, I suppose the tragedy could influence someone not to drink and drive, and that might be a good thing.

I hope: He didn't know what hit him, he didn't suffer, and that his final thoughts were happy ones. Other than that, it's just devastating to see a young person taken long before his or her time. I hope everyone else who's heard this sad story is a little more careful today.

117 A little early for gloom and doom, Scoop? We have a lot of good depth at pitcher, which is key. Lowe's been a little erratic of late but I feel confident in him over the long haul. But yeah, hopefully Schmidt'll come back. Maybe Kuo will replace Tomko or eventually Hendy...

Heath Bell looked like a good reliever in that inning.

An interjection used to imply indifference towards a subject; "a verbal shrug". This particular interjection has somehow become quite popular among teens, the reason for this popularity is a mystery. Other popular interjections are "bleh", "dah", and "mih". Usu. pronounced shortly, without eye contact or body movement.

When will Grady decide to simply straight steal with someone who can steal? Pierre should have stole third that one inning, Martin when he was on and forget the hit and run, and Furcal this inning and the grounder to 1st would have had Furcal at 3rd. Where's Ned when we need him? Pierre gets a lot of hits. The Padres have only thrown out 2 of 30 runners attempting to steal. Sorry, but it's one of those rant days.

that was pathetic. hampson's move isn't THAT good. he hangs his right knee in the air when he's thinking about throwing to first. otherwise he turns his head towards home and delivers.

Like other runners against Hampson, Pierre was clearly confused, uncomfortable trying to get a good read. The kid has more than one move. With Nomar up against a left-handed middle reliever, seemed OK for Pierre to stay put.
But Nomar hacked at a 2-0 pitch that should have been ball three, then hit into the DP.

Is a roster move going to be necessary to get a fresh arm for tomorrow? Hopefully Wolf's good for his usual 6-7 IP, but if not we might need someone to throw a few innings and i'd rather give today's guys a rest (except for Beimel maybe). The only problem is that if we send someone like Tsao down, he can't come back up for 10 days unless someone goes on the DL.

570. That's alot of steals and runs scored. Also worth noting that he's on pace to make $45 million dollars over the next 5 years.

And get on base 30% of the time and slug .327 and get caught stealing 20 times.

The player's EqA is currently .242 according to Prospectus.

His VORP is currently -0.5. Woohoo.

The player is currently 18th in the MLB in hits, 8th in runs, and 2nd in stolen bases.

Ned must like...nay, love, what he sees.

Ha!

The LA Times is running a poll today on who is the best second baseman in LA Dodger history.

First on the list: Delino DeShields.

Grudzielanek has 2% of the vote while Delino has 1%. Kent only has 1.8%.

The leader so far is Davey Lopes at 51.9%.

Kent has 9.6%. You were looking at the wrong line but it's a confusing layout.

Well, congrats to those of you who stuck the whole game out here for the whole duration! Y'all should get a medal for a game that lasted about as long as the Weismans have been together. ;-)

I left in the 15th to catch a film screening and event so I didn't know what happened until now. Whoopee! Nice to hear that Bills pitched peachy. Seems like he may be back on track, learning some things.

In other news, I saw George Lucas, Robin Williams and John Lasseter tonight. That was great. I am too tired to write above a 5th grade level now, so... night. Here's to a shorter victory tomorrow.

581 Gosh, I reread the above, and I wasn't kidding, I really am writing at a 5th grade level. Okay, I think I better do this film write-up in the morning before I embarrass myself.

(10 innings and 1 hit! Wow.)

>>> "When we see that Russell needs a break, that will be the deciding factor rather than who we play," he (Little) said. "In April, May or June, that's not a consideration. It might be a factor in September."

Lieberthal was scheduled to catch Tuesday, although Little might reconsider and rest Martin today. <<<

Juan Pierre could also be a "Pee Wee". Just the way that big hat sits on his little head and pushes down thet tops of his ears. Yeah, Pee Wee Pierre seems to fit.

I would think it better to rest someone before he gets tired and not after he gets tired.

Interesting that Dodgers are in first place without a power hitter in sight and the Yanks are in last place and AROD is having an all time best super human power month.

I think I will just keep throwing this out into the ether hoping it will eventually settle over Ned and Grady's heads--Nomar will have a healthy and productive life playing third base.

I'll settle for "Mike Lieberthal is not the answer to our third base woes".

It doesn't really seem fair for me to have remembered Steiner's jag about how he didn't use computers only to have Jon come in and undermine it. I guess he and Psycho were running shtick.

Didn't get to watch the last, well, half of the game, but FSNPT reran it. I checked the box score, twice, during the 17th to make sure I'd read it right. Clark really did knock in a run, and Billz really did strike out the side (and then some; that curveball was a strike).

574 among others. I don't mean to pile on Pierre who will get better. But one problem with w/ Vorp is of course not considering the specific replacement player, who could be Matt Kemp, in this case.
