5 That, and Tsao, are the good news. The bad news is torn labrum for Brazoban and exploratory 'scope in the shoulder for Schmidt, who may have 'fessed up to the doctor about how that joint actually feels.

If we get Tsao back I wont be as upset about losing Chad. Chad seemed like he was turning into Grady's 7th inning guy and Tsao could fall back into that when healthy. I just hope Ned doesn't try to trade for any relief help, as that never seems to turn out well.

Argh, I hope Schmidt isn't an Ashby and don't think he'll come close to an Erickson. I hope whatever they do, they get to the bottom of his problems and don't rush him!

I agree, if Tsao can come back we can enjoy having Bills as a starter even more (plus, lest we forget, there are guys like Houlton, Hull and pleaseplease... Meloan! to bolster the bullpen - and I think any of them would be better than Tomrickson.)

Anyway, hurrah to that news at least.

Anyone think Brazoban was pushed back into pitching too soon? Perhaps he wanted too as well, but it wasn't as if we were pining for bullpen help. Just seems like the injury was avoidable if he had a slower transition into competitive pitching.

hmmmm, Reggie Jackson. My dad went to college at Arizona State in the mid 1960s. My dad told me the story of, one time after class he was walking by a park/field on campus and there were two guys hitting fly balls to each other. My dad asked if he could join them, and then scurried home to get his glove. My dad was impressed with how good they were and even got some advice from one of them about running on the balls of your feet when catching a fly ball, so the ball doesn't bounce in your field of vision. Later on, he found out the one who gave him the advice was none other than Reggie Jackson and I believe the other was Sal Bando. Reggie was there oroginally on a football scholarship. vr, Xei

It was a good piece of hitting by Pierre though (don't say that very often) to take that ball the other way. Also it wasn't great baserunning when Pierre hesitated on that Nomar single but on a hard hit ball on turf to shallow LF-er even with Pierre running I'm not sure he would've scored. Doesn't matter now, at any rate.

55 Read the last thread for some more thoughts on this, though I think the general consensus here seemed to be, yes, Kemp should have started and Gonzo in as DH as first choice. I thought Anderson made the next most sense after that. Loney's not available to play today, so that eliminated that chance. Betemit could have had a shot at 3rd today but I guess his awful Sunday was part of the reason he's sitting.

Going back to that Alex Belth post, one line about Reggie really struck me:

"He turned down bigger offers from the Expos and the Padres and signed."

116 Since Martin is (sort of) back home (at least home country), would you call it Subterranean Homesick Dodger Blues?

I have the Jays announcers and they are very good, even in these circumstances. No trace of "homer".

That pitcher already looks better than McGowan. I liked Charlie Steiner's line about his name - "Gordon DeJon sounds like someone who should have a boutique on Rodeo Drive."

Growing up in L.A., I used to listen to virtually every Dodgers game. I loved the night games from the East Coast, which sandwiched the dinner hour. In the summer they would come on after I had played softball all day at La Cienega Park in Beverly Hills, near our house in L.A. I remember a game in Philadelphia that the Dodgers led 7-0 after 1 1/2 innings. This is reminiscent of that game. The best road game was when you turned it on in the top of the second and Willie Davis was leading off. As Willie batted third, that meant that the Dodgers had sent 11 batters to the plate in the first inning and would have scored at least five runs and as many as eight. That was an extremely rare occurrence.

I said I hoped he struck out in every at bat in the previous thread. So that kind of counts.

Rick Monday must have narrated the Monsanto "Better living through chemistry" ride @ Disneyland.

-Hell, he's probably living it.
