That was another game I listened to on my transistor radio while at Stanford, using the Vegas station. Extra innings were conducive to reception because they continued late at night. I still can't believe I was so Dodger-crazy that I spent nights outside my dorm, trying to find the best place to stand so I could pull in the signal. Such is the power of Vin Scully.

I remember watching EVERY. SINGLE. INNING. of that cursed game. When the Dodgers failed to score with runners at 2nd and 3rd with no outs in the 21st inning, I knew we were toast. I went to bed absolutely heartbroken that night.

I've run across that game on ESPN Classic a few times since. I've become well-accustomed to Dodger futility in the years since, so I actually enjoy watching it now.

Back then, the Dodgers were the home team in Arizona and all the games were broadcast on one of the local AM stations.

I listened to every inning and I remember telling my mom how it ended the next day.

I remember that game well, because it was the night before my family drove me out to my summer job at Disneyland.

Ah, I remember this one well too. And I think this remains the best raw pitching (despite the loss) I've ever seen by a position player. I certainly can't remember the last time a position player took the mound with the game on the line, rather than in a blowout.

Thanks for the link! I vaguely remember the game being 9 years old at the time, but I do remember wondering why Fernando was playing 1B and wishing he had been a little bit taller to make the catch. I certainly didn't remember Hamilton getting two K's. Which Dodger position player today would be the best pitcher? I'd love to see Furcal light up the gun.

I may be mistaken, but wasn't Eddie Murray a left handed fielder? I think he was the first southpaw in decades, that day, to play third in the majors. I could be thinking of someone else.
