Huh... I guess I should put the Dom on ice about now... 'course, I don't have any of that, so it's back to the Piper Heidsieck or whatever it is we actually have floating around.

Hey, cool, I get to be the first Dodger Thoughts poster of 2008. May the new year bring a World Series MVP award for Russell Martin.

Its 12:53 PST and the last few years we have had a tradition in our house of doing the hula at 3:00 am to ring in the Hawaiian new year. The kids want to do it again this year. I'll never make it. Need a second wind.

Happy New year all.

X--I will really be looking foward to float pictures. This is the first year I can remember the holiday sports and D's black hole affecting me.

I can assure xeifrank that it is not windy in Pasadena now and most likely won't be when the sun comes up.

My question about the Rose Bowl is, if something cataclysmic happens and they have to cancel the Rose Bowl one of these years, will the Sun Bowl, as the oldest continuous bowl game, get ownership of the phrase "Granddaddy Of Them All™"? Granddaddy is much more of a Texas word than a California word anyway.

It is very windy in Palos Verdes. Just drove my son home from a party. He's a senior in high school. At this party, no drugs, no alcohol, just....Disney charades!

Naturally, I'm thrilled, but...?

Saw a few tumbleweeds rolling around, which got me wondering...where can I see pre-uprooted tumbleweeds? Are they ever green?

It's almost sad that I know Wikipedia will know the answer. I resolve in '08 not to look up every idle curious thought in Wikipedia.

Anyway, Happy New Year to all who are up now, and to all who will be up in the morning. Thanks for being Dodger Thoughts.

The Tournament of Roses has a trademark on "Granddaddy of Them All" I believe.

You can see tumbleweeds before they tumble a lot. It's a weed called Russian thistle.

There is a lot of it growing on the hills near Elysian Park by the 110 Freeway. Sometimes those turn into tumbleweeds that roll through Downtown. It quite disturbed someone new to the area to see that.

Done with the house party...they had a keg of Fat Tire...finished my night with an Avocado burger at Lucky Boy...Pasadena...I loved you when you were young....gentriciation is a true soul sucker.....

Also, some frickin' citizen parallel parked in front of my driveway.....I called 5 Oh to tow the sucka away, and now that I'm home I'll never know if it was towed or just left.....We did some nice drawings on the winshield dust, but still I am upset...

To bigger and Better in 2008!

First big quote of the new year - from Shea Hillenbrand:

http://tinyurl.com/yq78vk

But it's baseball, which has paid nearly $18 million over the last four years, that allowed the Hillenbrands to pursue their other passions. And it's why, at age 32 and coming off a season in which he played a career-low 73 games for the Dodgers and Angels, hitting a career-low four homers and batting a lifetime-worst .251, Hillenbrand isn't ready to pack it in just yet.

He says he has been working out all winter and though he has had feelers from just one club, the San Francisco Giants, he's confident the phone will begin ringing in the next couple of weeks.

"Something will come up," he says. "I've got about 10 years to go."

LAT, if you did a hula at midnight HST, you were probably the only one. Out here we tend to blow stuff up at midnight, with all that entails for respiratory-disease sufferers and family pets.

Can you tell I'm not enamored of this "tradition?"

Hauoli Makahiki Hou, everyone!
