I wasn't a huge fan of the premiere, but tonight's episode is really strong.

Where are you at? I thought you were in the LA area? Do you get the East coast feed?

We get lost at 8:00 Mountain time, so this is frustrating -- I think it just barely started for you guys in LA? I still can't figure out exactly what is happening, but this show is fantastic.

The way Desmond described Scotland, it is a place I'd really like to see.

jeez, people need to start wearing red shirts on this show.

Desmond's not as cool wearing those shades and that scarf.

the shades are kind of cool, actually.

Until the Locke-Richard-widmore scene, I found very little to groove on in this episode, which is unusual.

Richard Alpert is the coolest character and represents a huge mystery -- how the heck does he not ever age?

Richard Alpert is the island.

Isn't this really Episode 3 since there were two last week?

I'm betting that Charlotte will be making a return appearance. I wonder if she lives in L.A.

Charles Widmore should look older in the 21st Century. The young Charles Widmore looked to be in his 20s and he certainly hasn't aged 50 years. So he must have had his aging stopped at some point.

Or they just didn't want to cast an actor in his late 70s or early 80s.

22 I think Widmore was supposed to be younger than the actor looked in this episode.

18 I keep thinking that maybe Richard is Jacob, which might mean the same thing.

anyone else think Ellie (girl holding Daniel at gunpoint) is a young Mrs. Hawking, especially since he told her how much she resembled someone he knew?

Am I reading you both wrong, or were you possibly insisting that Charlotte is Faraday's mother?

25 At first I thought it was the woman in the coma, but that doesn't make sense for the time line. That definitely sounds like a possibility.

The first 40 minutes of this episode were good, but nothing mind-blowing. I loved the last few scenes though.

I really like the idea that one can not change the future or the course of life/time. In so many time traveling stories, characters have to deal with the whole issue of "altering time" through their actions in the past/future. This is a nice spin; no matter what, the course is set.

25 - absolutely, especially since his rat was named Eloise, presumably after his mother.

Definitely, but I also think this is Daniel's mother.

33 - I think you are probably right, especially since his mother is in LA and we know Eloise Hawking is there since she was in the church with Ben last week. Also, if you watch the enhanced re-run last night, it said her full name is "Eloise Hawking."

I also wonder if Widmore is somehow his father? Or maybe an uncle? Just speculating.

31 - there are some time travel stories that work on the basis that you can't change the flow of time. But of course, we've seen them change events already, like Daniel talking to Desmond, and Desmond going to Oxford the "first" time.
2009-01-29 11:35:32

35 Still, that's just special cases, and usually involving Desmond because he's "special."

But wouldn't the encounter with John and Alpert last night change their future encounters on the island before the time shifting?

It appears that John's mention of his birth may have been the reason Alpert visited him when he was kid.

37 Richard also seems to qualify as "special." Already one rule of time doesn't apply to him (aging), so maybe others don't also. For "normal" characters, it seems like there are rules.

38 I'm not pulling this out of nowhere. I generally read Lostpedia after each episode and wander between links. They've stated that Richard and Desmond are "special" or something with the time thing. I don't think anybody else has qualified.
