It's On: Dodger Thoughts Night at Dodger Stadium
2006-06-16 14:49
by Jon Weisman

When: Friday, June 23, 7:40 p.m. I'll arrive as early as possible after work - ideally by 6:40 p.m.

Where: Dodger Stadium, Reserved Level, Section 12. The Dodgers are hosting Pittsburgh on Fernando Valenzuela Bobblehead Night.

Tickets: Thirty tickets have been reserved at a cost of $12 each by Dodger Thoughts commenter ToyCannon. (Many thanks!) E-mail him at molokai@yahoo.com with "DodgerThoughtsGame" in the subject header to reserve your seat(s) and arrange payment. If more people are interested, we'll try to scrounge up more tickets - but because of the bobblehead giveaway, the game may sell out, so act as quickly as possible.

Update: For a $2 Ticketmaster service charge, your ticket can be e-mailed to you. See Comment 11 below for more details.

Also: If you would like to purchase a copy of The Best of Dodger Thoughts, this is a great time to do it.

I'm sure Nate and Bob saw this happen live but a good day for a Dodger draftee.

I wasn't watching the CWS. I'm more of a World Cup guy. But I figured there would be interest.

3.   bhsportsguy
Unless they move some guys around because of the off day, Derek Lowe should be on the mound that night.

1 I saw that right before I left to go visit my crunched up car at the autobody shop.

FYI. I know we've all been To Dodger games before, but it seems like it is even tougher this year to get through the parking lot at a sell out than ever before. I went to the last Bobble Head Night (also on a Friday) and I got off at the 101 at Alameda about 45 minutes before the game and was unable to reach my seat before the second inning. I know they have made at least one general parking lot a reserved lot. Heads up everyone.

I just emailed ToyCannon asking him how I can pay, it's a friday game & Fernando Valenzuela bobblehead night (to perfect for me to pass on)

I believe Toy Cannon wishes to be reimbursed in one of three ways:
1) pelts
2) Krugerrands
3) large stones carved into his image

Ok, no game thread open yet but I must leave shortly. I am going to see COLE HAMELS vs Jamie Shields vs Bobby Abreu vs Carl Crawford vs Chase Utley vs Jorge Cantu vs my pal Sal Fasano vs your friend Tyler Walker...

9.   Jon Weisman
Game thread is open - but continue to think about the 23rd here.
2006-06-16 15:20:42

And maybe nobody else will ask this but if TC orders 970 more tickets to that game won't they let him throw out the first pitch?

FYI on the game:
I just got off the phone with the Dodger ticket man David Kirpatrick and they have placed the tickets in my account so I'm able to email the tickets to those who have the ability to print the tickets. Ticketmaster charges 2.00 per emailed ticket so the total cost would be 14.00 if you choose that option.
I'll be getting the tickets on Tuesday night. Here are the options for getting your tickets. Let me know which option you'd like when you email that you'd like to attend.

1. If you want you can come by my house and pick them up after Tuesday night. I live in Woodland Hills on the easiest street to find in the San Fernando Valley and that is Victory Blvd made famous by Randy Newman. You will need to make arrangements for local pickup via my email address. I don't live behind any gates so pickup will be painless.
Cost is 12.00 per ticket.

2. You can have them emailed and you print out the tickets. Cost is 14.00 per ticket.

3. I'll be at the game 1 hour before in the Reserve entrance section. You can pick up your ticket at that time but you must have contacted me before to let me know because I'll be working off a list. Cost is 12.00 per ticket.

The sooner you all decide to go the better in case we need more tickets.

All payment will be done either using paypal or cash at the game if you do not have paypal. Please do not make me cash any checks.

I bet Matt Kemp hits two home runs off Tyler Walker tonight.

When I ordered a bunch of tickets online, they came in one big PDF and I could figure out how to separate them to send them out.

Was there something I was missing? My Adode reader wouldn't let me save individual pages.

2006-06-16 15:35:16
15.   ToyCannon
14
They didn't put me through that misery. I'm lucky in that they were able to add each ticket to my existing account so I can forward each individual ticket and I'm not dealing with a PDF file.
The difference in technology between the Fox days and the McCourt days is a shining light.

Who's bringing the beachballs? I'd like to attend but the 300 mile drive before and after is a killer....Have a great game, guys. May Baez be chained to the bench all evening.

Bob are you goin?

I don't know yet.
2006-06-16 15:50:59
19.   ToyCannon
I hope Bob is going since I was hoping to use him as my beacon at the reserve entrance since I'm hard to see.
2006-06-16 15:52:05
20.   ToyCannon
Bob it wouldn't be the same without you.

I'd really like to go, but a (likely) sold out Friday game is tough, as far as the time commitment goes. 2 questions -

1. Any chance of a pre or post game get together? I like the new El Compadre on Sunset across from the Shortstop.

2. Toy Cannon is Molokai? Did everybody know that?

2006-06-16 15:55:37
22.   Blu2
Bob, do you have any Jim Tracey effigies you can bring?Have they started production yet on the Baez, Furcal, and Flanders effigies yet?
2006-06-16 15:58:47
23.   Blu2
21 A pre-game get-together somewhere could result in car-pooling and save money and hqassle in the parking lot. From someone who won't be there...
2006-06-16 16:00:17
24.   Jon Weisman
21 - It was big news when it happened, but you might have missed it.

I'm hoping Rob goes, so he can put together one of those cool photo things he does.

We can do the pregame get-together at the Central Library. What floor should we all swarm, Bob?

2006-06-16 16:00:56
25.   ToyCannon
Bob, if you go I'll give you my own Frank Robinson T Shirt:)

21
Remember the Friday Night games are 07:40, plus if we do this right we might be able to get some ride sharing going for people in the same geographic area's thus reducing the stress for everyone.

2006-06-16 16:01:19
26.   Jon Weisman
Seriously, I'd rather bask at Dodger Stadium before the game. And I think it'll make things easier for Toy, maybe. Maybe not.

Aww, and I'll be 3000 miles away during the game. :( (Think Sam DC's neck of the woods, so to speak)

Any chance of a repeat in August, if this goes well?

I'll be sitting with my family in the top deck where we have a mini-season ticket plan. Since my husband and I are lurkers here, we can lurk up there and spy on you all with binoculars.

Thanks, ToyCannon. I'll ask my husband if he's up for it and email you before the game. There are four of us. By the time we get the kids up to the Top Deck, we might be too exhausted to move. We're in section two, third row of the Top Deck and love it. We'll probably buy the same plan next year. Nice people up there and the view is great for $6. We can practically call the pitches.

Depends on how you look at it. After all, Jimmy Jimmy BoBo doesn't sound cool. But, in the proper context:

10 Absolutely. Dave Kirkpatrick was my point man. Haha.

I'll be there. I always have a demand for more Dodger bobbleheads...

I entered the ThinkBlue contest for BP at Dodger Stadium.... perhaps my essay will dazzle them into picking me... haha

Bummed that I'll be on the other coast when this happens. I only post occasionally, but I read constantly and feel like I know you all. It would have been great to meet some of you.

bugger. i won't be in socal until the 29th. i planned the west coast swing to coincide with the freeway series at the big a (son is an angels fan). of course, this means i will still be in minny to see the 3 game series with the twins.
anyway, i will be at the ravine on the 3rd of july. i realize that rally towel night is not the same as fernando bobble head night, but if anyone else is heading out, let me know.

If you haven't received your email tickets yet, please contact me as they have all been sent. Those of you doing pickup at the game you might want to reconsider since we've had a high % taking the email route it would be nice if we didn't have to hook up outside unless your planning on coming very early. I'd hate to miss all the conversation waiting for someone to show up. Just a thought. Thanks to those who responded so quickly and lets try to recruit a few more.

51 - Yes - since ToyCannon is already doing yeoman work on this, if you can make things easier for him, that'd be great.
2006-06-19 08:54:08
53.   ToyCannon
Hardly yeoman work. This has been a piece of cake because of the Dodger Ticketing system. Just wish we'd had a stronger response. I probably didn't give enough lead time but even with the current group it should be fun.

14 tickets still available.

54 - As Vinny says, bring the kids and we all know how he feels about babies. If anyone has a problem the peer pressure glare of multiple DT posters should do the trick. If your unaware you don't need to buy a ticket for the baby unless you want to so you have more room.
