Yhency Brazoban has gone back to the disabled list, and Eric Hull is the surprise callup to replace him, reports Tony Jackson of the Daily News.
Hull has a 3.67 ERA in 27 1/3 innings with AAA Las Vegas this year, striking out 27 and allowing only one home run but allowing 24 hits and 15 walks.
Hull had similar numbers in 73 innings with the 51s last season (78 strikeouts, 97 baserunners, six homers allowed.)

Update: Steve Yeager talked to The Associated Press about the second life-threatening accident in his life.
Now a coach for the Single-A Inland Empire 66ers of the California League, Yeager was on a freeway headed home following a night game May 4 when another vehicle hit the center divider, went airborne and came down on top of his car.
"Bam. That's it. It happened so fast," Yeager said. "I saw the car coming, tried to swerve to my right. It was too late. I swerved enough so it didn't land directly on top of me, just partially on top on the driver's side.
"It sent me spinning -- I ended up on the side of the road."
Yeager said when his car finally came to rest, he saw blood -- lots of blood -- coming from his left arm. And he felt the kind of pain that can't be measured.
"How do you describe pain? I started moving my fingers to make sure everything was still attached, and figured, 'We'll go from there,"' he said.

Today's 4:05 p.m. game:
whose stuff was admittedly dull
but his stats were legit
or at least adequate
and now he's an option to mull
Reposting this since I got LATed in the last thread:
I no longer live in NY, but I think there's a lot of truth to 109 and 110. Even the serious baseball fans out there really don't know the Dodger players (or other west coast players). It's like the East Coast is on a two-year time delay. It took a couple of years before they knew who LoDuca was, and realized he was good. Maybe it's the same with Martin.
That would also explain why Nomar is one of the only Dodgers doing well in the voting, even though he, well, stinks.
One would think the East Coast effect would be mitigated a little by the Japanese voting. From what I understand, a not-insignificant portion of the online ballots come from Japan. The Dodgers not only opened the door for the influx of Japanese players, but have had at least one Japanese star on the team almost continuously since 1995 -- and then there's the proximity factor. All that would ostensibly work in the D's favor. But it doesn't appear to be happening.
I thought Hull was already on the 40 man?
Feeling under-appreciated ...
Hull? Wow, I wouldn't have guessed that one. He's only up for a little while and has been decent I guess so, whatever. Obviously this isn't the last move we'll get in the next few days. I guess Houlton wasn't someone they'd want to use for short appearances then?
http://imdb.com/title/tt0084945/
I'd like to see Nomar on that 15 day phantom DL too.
He's had one or maybe two phantom injuries over the past few years, though.
Great year...Or greatest year?

Simplistic conclusion: power and scoring in the first two months are about the same as 2002 and at the lowest point in the 2000s.
Thank the gods for baseball-reference.com
The Toy is clearly the best movie of the three named. From the piranha lake scene to the racist wife and of course Jackie Gleason. CLassic. Your Wrath of Kahn reference is comedy too.
Assuming the Dodgers wanted another middle reliever to replace Brazoban, Hull made the most sense out of anyone on the 40 man.
http://story.scout.com/a.z?s=228&p=2&c=648175
Meloan probably would've made the most sense out of anyone in the organization, though. He's not on the 40-man but we currently have 2 spots to play around with (the 40 spots are full but Repko and Anderson could be moved from the 15 to 60-day DL).
The fact that they picked Hull over Meloan leads me to believe that this is a very short-term callup that will end whenever Tsao gets better.
(Yes, I was really bored at work today.)
From what I understand about Japanese viewing habits of MLB, they're pretty targeted. First, it was Nomo and only Nomo. Then Ichiro. Then Hideki Matsui. And now Matsuzaka. Every Dodger, then Mariner, then Yankee, now Yankee game and Daisuke start televised. I wonder if (and doubt that) Saito gets the same following, especially since you can't predict when he'll appear. Is Jeff in Tokyo still out there? Any MLB on the terebi other than Yanks, Sox, and maybe Mariners these days?
At other ballparks, they are. The usher will come by once a game and give every row a stack equivalent to 2 or 3 ballots for each person in the row. Do they not do that at Dodger Stadium?
No, they leave us alone and let us watch the game while they chase bouncing beach balls.
Not that there's anything wrong with that.
Hey last night I dreamed I was an English teacher in high school at ECR and I had 3 students and all I talked about was the Chatworth game coming up on Saturday since I'm the least prepared person to teach English living in Woodland Hills. I love my subconcious. I assume my wife's open house for her 4th grade was the reason for such bizarreness.

Online voting has begun for the Triple A All-Star Game. Go cast your vote for Kemp and Loney here:
http://tinyurl.com/2uyepq
(The article on MiLB.com is pimping Larry Bigbie for the game, even though he doesn't, you know, play minor league baseball.)
The 51s, by the way, face the best pitcher in in minor league baseball tonight. (Yovani Gallardo) Game starts at 5 Pacific.
Neither do I, Steve looks so old in the bottom picture.

What kind of crazy, screwed up world do we live in?
you think dominguez will drop to the dodgers?
Like everyone else the people who made the ballots assumed they would not be in AAA.
Carlos Zambrano and Barret go at it.
http://tinyurl.com/2bw6on
No, just wishcasting.
In honor of Daniel Zappala, I shall vote for Mitch Jones (51 RBI - I know, I know).
He's actually a SS but BA seems to think he might get drafted and moved to catcher. I think that is unlikely and that he moves to 3b but they are smart people and talk to the scouts.
I hope he looks fantastic.

Oh, and Zapped is also sentimental for me. First on screen shot of boobies!

"at the time he did it" is an interesting qualifier.
Joe Torre made his MLB debut while I was a fetus, so his opinion on this matters a lot more than mine.
I wondered about that. From watching Gameday, it seemed to me that the Pirates probably should have scored two runs instead of one.
I chalk it up to more Magic.
The 3rd base coach must have thought Bradley was still in CF for the Dodgers.
6.5 of one, half baker's dozen of the other
And question marks.
While we've gone over Steiner getting excited over warning track fly balls, I think Monday going crazy for a productive out is much worse.
Go D's.
So you think Martinez Part 2 is more productive than Saenz?
Abreu looked like he might have been just barely safe anyway, had Paulino not lost the ball there but could have been called out - was really close. He did a nice job of tucking his hand in there around the catcher.
---
That was a weird way to get an out at 2nd, but we'll take it.
How is that possible?
What strapping young ballplayers are being buried by Jim Tracy this year?
I remember them busting out those red-billed caps a couple years ago, but never in my wildest dreams could I have imagined that growing into this monstrosity.
---
man these Pirates announcers are... odd. Boring and odd. A great combination. Now they're talking about the Beatles for some reason.
I have never thought I'd pine for Steve Lyons, but I am right now.
Actually in 1997 for the 30th anniversary of Sgt. Pepper, Capitol Records had announced a special 3 disc edition of the album remastered, with a completely alternate version of Pepper, and rare demos of all of the songs.
Sadly they canceled the project.
Wolf should know better than to let him beat him.
Judging solely from the stat sheet, they don't have any, except maybe Doumit. That makes this the perfect team for Tracy.
Gonzo ripped that one, nearly went out.
Then I realized he's hitting .214 and slugging .369 in AA. Yikes.
He also scorched, ripped, laced, crushed, and mashed it.

Abreu's basically May/June's version of Wilson Valdez apparently. However, at the expense of Laroche everyday at 3b, which sucks.
was it this year when we pounded the Pirates on there home opener? (i think it was last year) there broadcasters were pretty sad/depressed that we did that.

Jeff Kent is the worst fielding major league starter, apparently.
My word. And they just talk about random nonsense. Ad nauseam.

209 I'm here quite a bit.
Kent and Ethier made a pretty casual relay play there, each of them. They should have had a play at the plate.
Wolf is not having one of his better games today.
With 3 runs in the top of the inning, things are getting better all the time.
Still, Wolf will continue to need a little help from his friends.
And if Furcal or Pierre make it to third again, perhaps we'll soon be saying, "He's stealing home (bye bye)."
Okay, somebody stop me ....
You would be too, if you had to have morphine injections before every game. I mean, how else can they stand to do that job?
Get Hull up!
Maybe it just reverted over to the Pirates announcers.
I love you, Russell Martin.
Another moon shot to dead center. Man, I love that guy. Nice pitcher's duel here so far.
kent is in a slump now...rolling over a lot of pitches recently
Another great at bat for Martin. Just a day in the life for the golden god.
This time, I'll stop ....
Sorry all about the triple.
You know, being for the benefit of Mr. Martin.
I had morphine injected to me when i dislocated my left shoulder, it felt pretty groovy for a while but then my head started hurting really bad.

There is a clear choice. You can't go far wrong laying the best player...
Andrew, sounds like you got some 'splainin' to do.
Can't believe you guys missed that juicy a typo!
I don't get it.

I have no problem with Abreu. I hope he'll replace Kent, maybe next year, and have a long and productive career. His PECOTA projection for this year was .281/.325/.411. Anybody want to bet he'll beat that? Anybody want to bet he'll beat it by enough to sOPS+ 100 from the 3B spot? He had a .408 BABIP in Vegas. Anybody think he'll be able to keep that going?
Kuo, Schmidt, Houlton and Bills?
I was watching that game this afternoon.
Zambrano left Wrigley Field right after trying to throw a punch at Cub catcher Michael Barrett. Pinella pulled Barrett too and replaced him with Koye Hill.
i heard Barrett left the game with a fat lip, it's not nice to watch stuff like that but it happens sometimes.
Very nice. Belated credit goes to you. But instead of being despondent, take a sad post and make it better.
Wow, Bills strikes to BBs ratio today is phenomenal.
And there he goes. So long Chad, and thanks for all the fish.
The Beatles song jokes are making this Dodger game very enjoyable!
Let It Be!
On the other hand, these are the kinds of matchups that Beimel has to come through on.
I have to put you in consideration for "Dodger I dislike the most". Please consider the gravity of this statement.
Sincerely,
Andrew

Vs. RHP .200/.321/.348 .669
Grits doesn't even have the numbers in his favor to back up the move.
Beimel was a real nowhere man tonight.
Plus, he has the worst Gameday photo. Looks like he just woke up, got out of bed, and dragged a comb across his head.
but if he's not on the team who will be our all important LOOGY with not very good per. stats!?
And oh by the way, it's time that everyone in tv land to stop calling pitcher's stuff "nasty". The term lost its zing about 2 years ago.
Really? Not 17 years ago when the term was used to name the Reds bullpen?
So, come on, Dodgers! Put some Norwegian Wood on the ball!
332/335: Heh.
We lost 13-7, having scored 7 runs in the 1st inning.
The umpire was on my case after I asked him if he was in a hurry after he made a horrible call, calling out our leadoff hitter on strikes. He made derogatory comments about my weight and refused to call any runner out at 1B while I was playing there.
Okay, c'mon Sammy! Don't...let...me...down.

ok that's the best I can do tonight.;)
How long is the drive...?
Yes, here comes the sun.
I almost thought of coming home today, but the 405 on a Friday afternoon is...unappealing.
Plus, I think I can catch the CIF finals at Dodger Stadium tomorrow.
From here to Los Angeles
And with that, all ambiguity is gone.
Lopez, Guzman, Zimmerman due up
And in the end, the wins you take are equal to the breaks you make.

I am going to meet up with ToyCannon at the Stadium to watch the games.
Mitch Jones for CF!
I will be home for awhile. I've got a gig lined up for next year, but I'm looking for a better one!
So I'm trapped. Like a rat.
Message to Barrett:
Dont mess with Big Z.
I bet he drives with the emergency brake on, too.
I don't have the best luck with cars. Or mechanics. Or a lot of other things.

You say goodbye, I say hello.
I think it's possible I'm responsible for this. I sponsored the baseball-reference LaRoche page, starting yesterday. Today he gets sent down. I swear I will only use my powers for good, from now on. Come to papa, Hendrickson. . .
If they go, I'm going. I want to see the D1 game very, very much.
