Why did I still think it was a John Ford film? Weird. I forgot that he and Fonda had a big fight about the film. Okay, it's one of my favorite Mervyn Leroy films.
Did anyone remember the 80s TV remake? Robert Hays, Kevin Bacon, Charles Durning... Howard Hesseman as doc!
It was, ah, not as good as the original.

The thing that worries me about tonight's game is mostly that Joe Morgan will be involved.
If you want to get inebriated:
Drink everytime Joe Morgan talks about Jose Reyes' tools.
Drink when they talk about the Dodgers' offensive struggles the past 10 days.
...when Joe Morgan talks about how the Reds are doing, and Dusty Baker.
...when Morgan gets a name wrong for a Dodgers' young player.
...when Jon Miller says a name in overenunciated Espanol.
...when Morgan mispronounces Hiroki Kuroda.
If you want to stay relatively sober:
Drink when Morgan mentions Andy LaRoche or is aware of his existence.
...when Morgan proves he's aware of Rafael Furcal's injury.
To stay completely sober:
Drink when Morgan mentions someone's OPS or VORP.
Finally saw "There Will Be Blood" on PPV Marty. The movie kept me entertained thru out but it just didn't do it for me, I will say this though, Daniel Day Lewis is an extraordinary actor.
probably the best thing about the movie was his acting (to me)
I know, but I can digest my food now.
Broxtton never shakes off Martin from what I've seen thru the years... man, I was driving in the Prius yesterday when I heard Steiner make the call, just crushing man.
"Every outing I feel a lot smoother mechanically," said Schmidt, in his 11th month of recovery from major right shoulder surgery. "I think I'm still off quite a bit. But it's just still a work in progress. I bounced back quicker this last time, so that's a good sign."
For the second straight start Schmidt's fastball topped off at 91 mph, hitting that mark 12 times on Saturday.<<<
You make it sound like a bad thing that you wouldn't get to hear Joe Morgan.

I also know more than one group of people who were planning on going to this game but had to give up when ESPN picked it up. There's no way you want to take kids from here to a night game in Queens.
I was actually pretty lucky to get the game yesterday, and it was a good game. What can I say, I just didn't get the result I wanted.
But I'm a librarian who rarely works with books. So where do I fit in?
I don't even keep my books at home organized.
You can read that many different ways.
The answers are and must be within the organization. No more trades.
Youth offers the prospects of getting better. Youth is the future of this organization. Embrace it.
Why is Laroche in AAA?
Show Brox some love right now. He's too valuable to our future. Share that 8th inning job.
The Dodgers are not that far off.
I was in the Field level seats on Friday with just a Dodger hat and got some abuse, not too bad...
I guess leaping out of my seat and pumping my fist when Chan Ho Park struck out Wright didn't help either.
Even though we're facing Santana, I'm feeling optimistic. Now that starting pitching isn't an issue, I think we're just a few hot batters from a win streak.
Enjoy the game!
And it's good that the Phillies are doing a throwback to an era when they were laughingstock of baseball.
The thing is, why hasn't Ned/Torre/Bowa told him that yet? Why is Management waiting for the young players to figure out how to win rather than simply telling the young players the secret?
"The Phillies are more balanced on offense than the Marlins because they can do the little things to score runs."
The little things apparently being having guys who hit lots of home runs.
And the Rockies have lost TWO starting shortstops and have a gaping hole at second base. And they still haven't called up Castro.
Did he get hurt? Or is he just Juan Castro?
talking about 4 baggers, Jay Bruce just went yard again.
But I guess Omar Quintanilla is too powerful of an offensive force.
Getting a utility infielder is only wrong if viewed as anything close to a panacea.
The Bisons (Lipscomb) play later.
That's OK, Kershaw still can call him "Old Man Bruce". :)
From the give a contractor a cookie dept., or maybe the contractor version of Goldilocks and the three bears...
A Washington Post survey of issues people had with contractors found 64% of respondents generally pleased. Twenty percent were not. In addition to the usual concerns about getting the job done well and on time, there were the following concerns==
---30% said that while fixing one thing, a contractor broke another
---14% of survey repondents said a contractor had asked them to help
---3% said a contractor had asked them out on a date
---4% said a contractor took food or drink from the fridge without asking
---And 2% said a contractor took a nap on their bed or couch
No percentages given for how many were the obnoxious cheap seat fans at Dodger Stadium referred to here from time to time.
You'll have to settle for TV as the Reds don't come to L.A. again this year. The Dodgers will go back out to Cincinnati later this month.
The Reds are the only team out of the division that the Dodgers play twice on the road.
"The Era of the Lopsided Trade is over. GMs know too much about other team's players."
Let me tell you about a hypothetical GM, let's call him Ned.
Though I was at Kaz ishii's first ever start!!! Will savor that moment like a grilled scallop.
Ramirez and Uggla perhaps?
http://www.bb-ref.com/pi/shareit/BkXG
Jacobs came into today with a 120 OPS+. After his 2 HR in his first two PA, his OBP rose to .302, so maybe this is a moot point.
His line right now: .262/.302/.604
The Giants will have to have a mandatory choice, but it could end up being Lincecum.
Bob Brenly is outraged!
Jorge Campillo, ATL - 3 GS, 23.2 IP, 2-0, 1.14 ERA, 1/21 BB/K (includes 6 relief apps)
Jason Bergmann, WAS - 4 GS, 27.2 IP, 1-1, 1.30 ERA, 6/30 BB/K
Edinson Volquez, CIN - 6 GS, 38.2 IP, 3-2, 1.63 ERA, 20/50 BB/K (+1 relief app)
Chad Billingsley, LA - 6 GS, 38 IP, 3-2, 1.89 ERA, 17/31 BB/K
I was thinking there would be limited Brenly outrage, but then I realized the game was already in the 6th inning. I didn't realize that game was that far along.
If an opposing pitcher is shutting you out, you should let him.
The Cardinals called up Mike Worrell from Memphis. He is not related to the other Worrells.
Georgia 6, Lipscomb 0 - 2nd inning
Florida St. 17, Bucknell 4 - 5th innning
Home run for Mark Texeira!
Akinori Iwamura has no sense of the dramatic.
Has the outlook for Greg Miller improved much? His stats at Vegas show IP, hits allowed, walks and strikeouts all in the mid 20s, with a 5.76 ER. His ERA may be down from infinity, or near it.
From May 6 by Diamond Leung in the Press Enterprise:
Lefty Scott Elbert, also a first-round pick, had a setback in his recovery from arthroscopic shoulder surgery. Elbert suffered minor tightness after pitching in extended spring training. That tabled his return to Jacksonville, but he has since resumed throwing.
Kinsley: "What is Silverlight?"
Bruce is hitting .591/.690/1.000. Heck of a start.
The perfect criss cross combo! My cousin Joe in Elberton loves the Bulldogs as I love the Trojans.
Then again, who, besides D4P (I think), knows where Elon is.
Cookies & Milk.
Carona & Lime.
Ned & Crack.
Mark Prior & Surgery.
3-0 Az.
Before the wedding, yes. It's now Elon P, of course.
That is what my cousin maintains regarding the football programs.
Jason Johnson looking to go 8-2! I might be wrong but I think he had some kind of out in his contract if he's not with the big club this month. Doesn't look likely. Anyone know for sure?
I had a chance to really get to explore AT&T park during the Giants game vs the Padres. Everywhere you go you get great views, whether its the view of the skyline from the upper concourse, or the marina along the arcade. The food here is really quite excellent, and the Giants have to have the best popcorn in MLB.
Is it sacriligious to say AT&T is the best ballpark in the NL West?
Yes, it's a beautiful park and locale. Miserable, horrible team, but beautiful park.
Alas, not at the expense of Pierre, but i really didn't expect that. Kemp's still in there.
Pierre, LF
Kemp, CF
Kent, 2B
Loney, 1B
Martin, C
Young, RF
DeWitt, 3B
Maza, SS
Kuroda, P
Is it sacrilegious to think, I meant to say
Next time, my friends, next time... =)
I hear the A's serve some good ones from Saags.
I may end up going to the A's-Giants series in a couple of weeks and will have to root loudly for the A's.
4-1 Padres, top 10.
I'm the master of not being able to count. 3-1 Padres. It was a two-run HR.
SF has tying runs in scoring position and 1 out.
So are the games in Raleigh and Cary suspended for the time being. I can't tell from the NCAA website.
The storm is moving west to east, and both Raleigh and Cary are east of Durham. Plus, they're both south, so the storm might pass to the north of them.
"I expect [general manager] Kenny [Williams] to do something Tuesday. Because if we don't do anything Tuesday, there's [going to be] a lot of change in the lineup. That's all I'm going to say about the offense," said Guillen, whose comments were spiced with an occasional expletive.
I get no sense that Ned looks for opportunities such as this upon which to pounce.
Ping!
"Johan Santana has always pitched better in the 2nd half. Last year, he didn't pitch well in the 2nd half."
Then co-host Lincoln Kennedy (the former NFL lineman) asked how good the Lakers will be next year when Ernest Bynum comes back from injury. I hope Andrew doesn't fumble.
