We won't hear T.J. Simers ask John Wooden or Vin Scully what his favorite curse word is, but it should still be a great night. Fox Sports Prime Ticket, 8 p.m.

Galarraga's a righty though. Why can't DeWitt and LaRoche both play? I guess that would cause the world to cave in and all to turn to dust.
Of course, I WILL say that with Kemp done with his suspension tomorrow, that will give the team better options, too.
---
And I'm with you Penarol. It's a joy to watch the Euro and not feel my stomach in knots about it. I get a kick out of watching the Dutch, but am careful enough not to get too attached to them. ;-)
Both of which I said, incidentally, when I saw the lineup. I guess one game's worth of Mark Sweeney is the price we pay for Kemp getting suspended.
Over/under on Delwyn Young doubles tonight at Comerica: 1.5
2 Conversely, the Sweeney Marching and Chowder Society has been oddly quiet this whole year. We've got plenty of good chowder, if anyone's interested.
Is there any other kind...?
What I both like and hate about the current situation is that it is very clear. Several times recently in the national media and at least once from the mouth of an NL manger, the Dodgers are credited with having perhaps the best core of young talent in baseball. It is mentioned as a mixed blessing because it may take a while to "ripen". This means that three things are important.
1) how they play-- this is usually considered a function of the coaching staff.
2)How they are played--this means what players receive what playing time--and is layed at the feet of "the Manager".
3) how they are supplemented from without---this is the job of the GM.
Now this is good because on the national stage there won't be much chance for for laying blame on some of the usual suspects: inexperienced players, lack of chemistry, etc. As a matter of fact due to the expansion of new media there are only a handful of perk saturated writers who can't tell the truth without losing their "franchise"
On the other hand it could lead a few of the people responsible into desperate actions to try and obfuscate realities here.
And the reality is with Furc seriously wounded, and no contrabutions from the "suppliments", we may have to wait until next year.
It's the curse word of choice among Catholics.
But Rule 1 prohibits me from saying it or even hinting at.
Sweeney has an OPS+ of 2. Berroa is rocking a 5 but with 1/4th the ABs.
If this party was during the baseball season, all you had to do was listen to the radio.
I thought I was bhsportsguy's guest!
Now I feel so used.
Since for Jon its fairly easy to post a lineup (through comments), he's probably faster than the other media guys who create a new post for it.
I was generous with my tickets
Alas the secret gathering of DTers is now exposed.
I promise I won't say any more bad stuff about Ned.
I thought I was special. Not part of a cabal.
Pierre 8
Young 7
Ethier 9
Kent 4
Martin 2
Loney 3
LaRoche 5
Sweeney DH
Berroa 6
Lowe 1
Just so it's here, for convenience.
Come out to Durham this summer. I'll take you to a Bulls game, just the two of us.
Are you bringing your scorebook?
Why is X still on this team?
Scott Erickson
Jason Grabowski
Mike Edwards
Olmedo Saenz
Mark Sweeney
Help me out.
Jason Phillips
Going retro:
Ed Goodson
Andy Carey
Carlos Perez
Angel Berroa
Sure, but the problem is those two things aren't separate. Hu clearly needed to be sent down but just as clearly, he was a better major league option than Berroa.
Maza is a poor man's Berroa, and that is really saying something.
Jim Fairey.
As bad as he was in 1968, he was a lot better than Mark Sweeney in 2008.
Then it will be Greg Brock's turn to say "I called it!"
--
I like Dick Stockton actually.
Charlie's a homer. If we had had Maza first and then Robles, Charlie would be calling Robles "Luis Maza with more talent".
Bob, you wanna get those balloons ready again?
He's 67, he's been through a lot already!
Isn't that what Joe Starkey said at the end of a certain Cal-Stanford game?
I assume Kemp would be suspended for the first game and available for the second?
Thanks in advance.

There will be two more NL DHs to be determined. The Rockies are at the White Sox and the Giants are at Oakland.

If someone says they like journalist A, and you don't like that journalist because of his political views or actions you perceive as political, enjoy your viewpoint - and keep it to yourself.
I had the sense that they were trying to develop young players and win at the same time. I told them, "You can't have both, with as many young players as we had."
And Grady Sizemore has a home run in that game. That game better get played!
Should have been a walk next
The Dodgers will take on the Tigers starting at 5:10 p.m. PDT due to rain that has now stopped.
Fascinating how much your can pick up from a HOF announcer even if you can't even understand the language...I suggest everyone try a full game at least once..
Don't ring the CI alarm in vain! That's a felony!
Suffice to say, I'm very sad Russert is gone.
Nope. They really don't look much like each other. They are both Venezuelan.
135 - I understand.
Which is an odd choice since he's a pretty good fielder. But Holliday and Hawpe are back and I guess Hurdle wants to see how they do out in the field.
And "heckle" is a euphemism.
I had a young team and I was a young manager and we didn't win. I had the sense that they were trying to develop young players and win at the same time. I told them, "You can't have both, with as many young players as we had." And so, a couple weeks later, they let me go.
Plus, it's always cool to hear what Fernando has to say.
Actually as an amatuer I am getting better at not getting soaked on camping and fishing trips.
I heard Rick Monday say yesterday that Berroa was an upgrade on defense. Where does he get that inside information?
Hamilton, who is in the relative safety of center field, will just be taunted about his drug addictions from the always classy Shea Stadium crowd.
I once attended a game at Fenway where Jose Mesa started warming up in the bullpen and the entire crowd -- I mean the entire crowd -- started chanting "Mesa beats his wife!"
The Red Sox fans can do that because they're "knowledgeable."
And meanwhile, my weather prediction is not looking good as there is some really lame rain delay feature still on.
Pee Wee was jobbed!

dang, I miss vin at times like this.
whew
LOL!
Maybe it's just as well I can only stay for another couple of innings, before heading out.
Jon Miller has been growing on me, and I like the revamped Braves booth much better than a few years ago. The Cubs have a very good radio booth with Pat Hughes and Ron Santo; time is knocking the rougher edges off their TV guys, though Len Kaspar (sp?) and Bob Brenley are still not as good as Chip Caray and Steve Stone.
everytime loney hits a triple, i cant help but laught, he just looks so funny running!
DRILLED!
Foul.
Same here but I was eating when that call unfolded & threw some food & jumped up when the umpire clearly messed that call up!
luckily D-Lowe made it a moot point.

this election will miss his hard hitting questions, regardless of of party.

Darn, another smash hit that's an out.
I actually didn't watch the movie. But it want to a greaseboard now.

Darin Erstad
Oh wait, that's bad, right?
Sigh.
Okay, now this is your final chance to make me leave happy, Blue.
Sweeney is so past.
Berroa is so something.
Their pitcher looks like a genius, but I'm not sure thats true.
The team we have has a really hard time scoring runs.
Looked like an ephas pitch (I have no idea how to spell that word).
Next pitch: JP takes off.
Impemba and Rod Allen (I think) on FSN Detroit.
I ask the jury.
I kinda wish the D'backs would pull away so we can stop thinking of the Dodgers as contenders. It hurts to hope every night and then see this. I keep waiting for them to consistently hit better, but other than one game here or there, it's misery.
I wonder what Jeff Kent thinks of JP stealing third there.
Good--that pick-off eases the sting.
Two things. A) when you score 0 runs, your defense doesn't matter a bit
B) things eventually turn around.
who was the last pitcher before Kyle Kendrick tonight to get hits off of two different pitchers in the same inning?
Braden Looper last August 6, against David Wells and Mike Thompson of the Padres in the 5th inning.
http://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/SLN/SLN200708060.shtml
Incidentally, that was Wells' final start as a Padre.
I think the Dodgers could use a good sex scandal to spruce things up in the clubhouse. The Carolyn Hughes / Derek Lowe tryst in 2006 led to a playoff appearance!
I'm thinking Lindsay Soto and Danny Ardoin.

Bad WEEK for broadcasters ... :-(
Exactly. The man makes a significant contribution, and is doing his part to get the offense kick-started and the table set.
I'm guessing no.
I would only need to think once, and my thought would be "I hope I'm faster than an Ox".
At least our RISP isn't too bad. We almost never have RISP.
Toronto, May 19-22 - 31 innings
Kansas City, April 10-12 - 26 innings
Detroit, April 11-14 - 24 innings
Seattle, May 6-9 - 24 innings
Dodgers, June 11-present - 23 innings
Angels, May 9-11 - 22 innings
Washington, June 1-5 - 22 innings
Oakland, May 13-15 - 19 innings
Those are all the teams that have been shutout twice in a row. There may be some longer streaks as bookends to a single shutout.
Thomas Paine would certainly know how to relate to the current plight of L.A. sports fans.

Not sorry I missed the last few innings of the Dodgers game. What the heck happened - a brawl? I can't even bear the thought of watching highlights. I've seen slumps like this before, which is the only thing that -- if it doesn't really give me much hope, at least makes me shrug my shoulders, knowing they'll break out of it eventually. But right now, pretty much everyone is doing their share of un-hitting.
Speaking of, Diamond Leung invites people to post their questions for him to ask the team/staff about their slump and so on, so feel free. I couldn't come up with much that was useful but tried.
But at least the Giants are about to lose, it appears. Be nice to not even have to care what the Giants are doing.
This is their equivalent of the Berroa acquisition, basically. Maybe it'll pay off better for 'em though.
-really thinking something would be different under Torre as oppossed to Grady
-buying torre to deflect the fact that things most likely, barring best case sceniors for alot of people (most teams can say that), were not gonna be any different
I really wonder how McCourt views how his money is spent. I mean alot of his real money is being spent on really poor results, or if he dosen't sweat the millions because frankly it dosen't really matter what the results are. He seems competitve and some of you have met him, to me it seems like he would be really pissed by now. Knowing I paid Schmidt 26 million so far to do nothing would be enough. Let alone everything else.

Yikes, not very lucky with the results here.
My favorite line was: "The most valuable thing a father can give his children is to love their mother." That is especially true if the children are daughters. If you treat your wife with respect and love they will (hopefully) demand and receive the same from the men in their lives. Sadly, the reverse is also true.
I don't hate Simers, but I feel that he imposed way to much of his shtick. I was there to hear Vinny and Wooden speak. Either way, it was a great night.
A fine time with Bob T and ToyCannon and his lovely bride. If anyone's ears were burning, it was Bob talking about you.
For those who plan to attend any concerts at the Nokia, the seats upstairs are not bad, though they need to figure out their escalator plan.
Also, if you buy parking ahead of time at theater, you can save some money.
Things overheard in the hallway:
1. Wooden is sharper at 97 than I will ever be.
2. Scully can be funny and still use a just a few words.
3. Simers is ... well no one said anything about Simers.
