I'm gone for the night. Goodnight, all.
Manny to the Marlins for Jeremy Hermida, Ryan Tucker and Mike Stanton they would then spin them off to Pittsburgh for Jason Bay.
I've always found it to be a bit of a crapshoot.
The Marlins wouldn't have to pay much since the season is close to over and he might just get the Marlins into first place in the NL Middlin' East.
I knew Jon hated the deadline, but yikes.
In this case, I would have preferred "Perhaps your rules are obfuscating the eyes of you sheeple"
or possibly
"Perhaps your rules are obfuscating your sheeple eyes."
Wouldn't that just be a regular defensive replacement? Who would want Mike Jacobs?
So, if it does make some financial sense for Florida, why is the rumor far-fetched, 4 and 12 ?
Yes, make sure Ned can't trade for him.
............uh-oh.
Which 3 team deal is Wilson involved in?
Very, even though she's a Gator.
The Manny/Bay/Hermida one.
But I guess the verdict is that I was at fault. Comment 73 in the last thread threw me for a loop, as it took my "I don't know" and turned it into something else, considering I've espoused none of the three opinions about Ethier, Hu and Schmidt the commenter suggested.
But I guess I overreacted, so I apologize.
Is a Maddix or Byrd acquisition for precaution or might the Dodgers trade Lowe?
Commish approval required, that means a bunch of cash. Presumably the Sox will pay Manny's salary.
kind of like the conversation Dave G had last night.
I sure hope I'm sitting down if that trade goes through...
Roberts, Castillo, Winn, Molina, Rowand, Bowker (lone exception), Aurilia, Vizquel
Marlins get Manny Ramirez, one prospect (BOS), and cash (likely Ramirez's remaining salary)
Pirates get Jeremy Hermida and three prospects (two FLO, one BOS)
Red Sox get Jason Bay and John Grabow

bp link won't load though...
But who would be the wild card? Oakland? Deserving, I admit.
Twins or White Sox.
The big bad Billz
The strikeout monsteeerr.
They apparently get Mike Stanton who gets a lot of acclaim.
now, just 8 more like that, please.
What do they want with a 50-year-old LOOGY?
Book it.
Also, Peter Gammons says that the deal is not close to done, and is so complicated that it will likely continue through Thursday.
7 guys, 11 seasons. The last being Green in 2001.

I have no idea how I'm supposed to respond to this. Any comments he made about Kent were irrelevant to what I wrote.
The2pin was rather insistently, I felt, asking for information about trades, in a way I felt clearly meant a desire for the latest rumor.
TO: Joe Torre
FROM: Ken Noe
Re: Bison
Let him leadoff everyday Joe. Are you watching?
I was going to say that one of the most persistant images for me this year is Kemp actually running out from under his helmut on the bases--he is that fast.
Really? Gibson? He was very fast. Played wide receiver for Michigan State.
That was funny, BTW.
Matt Kemp continues to impress. Best player on the team, IMO.
I blame Gary Bennett.
By the way, I just picked that guy up in my fantasy league two days ago. Booyah!
I understand. I think he actually hurt his knee in the '88 postseason while stealing a base. Anyone remember for sure?
It was Game 5 in the 9th inning, stealing 2B. He played the next two games, but in extreme pain.
Torre said the club had planned to promote Chin-lung Hu from Triple-A Las Vegas on Tuesday, but Garciaparra wanted a few days to see if he could heal.

Since 1956, only Garvey & Stargell have done it.

"When you have young players, even if with the player you can get, you may not want to give up a young player who isn't as good as he's going to be," said Torre. "Those are the ground rules. Matt Kemp is good now and in a couple years he'll be special. Kemp may be better than the guy you're going to get, and that guy probably is making a ton of money. That's just good business sense there."
I just really hate Pierre as a player. He offers literally nothing, I feel. So I take Jones's defensive superiority and the fantasy that one day he might return to half of what he once was, which would be better than twice what Pierre currently is, and run with it.
I almost get the impression that Torre's talking to Ned...
Nice, glad you stuck around.
Andrew - you really don't think Hermida and Stanton was a good return for Bay. I think it was awesome. It would be like trading Kemp and Santana for him back when we had Santana.
It's been 40 minutes now and no one has joined Will Carroll in saying that the deal is done or even all that close to being done. Skepticism is still warranted.
He did do the whole "first guy on the team to bat" part correctly.
I said it was fantasy. But Pierre doesn't even offer fantasy. Just groundouts and 6-hopper throws back to the infield.
True---especially with Roberts weak arm. It wasn't going to fly all the way to the plate.
Kemp's hit streak might end tonight, and it'll be because he he's doing some incredible walking
Kemp might be OK. From the MLB official rules, Rule 10.23(a):
"A consecutive hitting streak shall not be terminated if a batter's plate appearance results in a base on balls, hit batsman, defensive interference or obstruction or a sacrifice bunt. A sacrifice fly shall terminate the streak"
He has said for a couple of years that Chad is a huge injury risk, a ticking time bomb.
But, I won't. Splendiferous will suffice.
Or for those of us who are fans of "Scrubs," we should refer to Blake as Beardfacé.
You are the perfectly principled person to post that!
My computer is getting so slow I need a new one.
We will lead off with a batter! But it may happen before I get the comment in.
Yep. The club was 26-25 after losing at Wrigley Field on May 27.
The following night I guaranteed a Dodger victory, and the resulting loss is why I now own a Juan Pierre t-shirt.
I'm telling you, her public speaking skills are a step below amateur.
Matt Kemp is good at baseball.
She needs those glasses, though I think she just wears them to look smart.
They were 27-27, but didn't get back to .500 until they hit 52-52, and are now 53-53.
Nice job, Bison.
...Oh wow, I thought Kemp was out by a mile on that steal, but Castillo couldn't hold on it.
Now your comment in 122 make a lot more sense to me! :)
LOL.
Nationals fans have a version of this involving Dmitri Young.
I also saw Loney, Billz, and Russ in Jacksonville. It was a good trip.
I'd gladly trade broadcasts with you, if that were possible.
.330/.410/.553, 5 HR, 10/13 SB, 19 R, 14 RBI in (almost) 25 games.
i would have just tackled bowa.
I remember hearing something about Penny (and Billingsly) saying that having Maddux on the staff improved them tremendously.
Just don't give up anything more than a C prospect to a division rival.
If he gets in trouble will we see Horus, or maybe Ra if their backs are really against the wall?
We just saw that with LaRoche a few weeks ago, didn't we, on the insane bunt with the bases loaded and two outs?
I believe the approved term is "Madduxian". :)
I don't believe FIP is park adjusted (is it???), so a 4.00 FIP in Petco is not very good.
Duane Kuiper called him a cross between Brian Fuentes and Mike Myers.
Absurd.
That would be the ultimate test of people's abilities to follow Rule 1.
They're now in the top of the 13th.
Indeed. That would be my last day on DT. Jon would most assuredly ban my IP.
Bull fertilizer.
Not even if it's a used older edition?
There are two rooms full of original prints from the Herald-Examiner, Security Pacific and a couple of other collections from 1958 to 1988. There are a few older photos, like Lefty Philips signing an 18 year old Don Drysdale to his first contract in front of Don's parents. A 1949 photo of the shanty town in Chavez Ravine was also very interesting.
If you remember the Dodgers "back in the day", as Kevin Kennedy likes to say, do yourself a favor and come see these great images.
The exhibit opened on July 12th at the Los Angeles Central Library. It is located in the first floor galleries.
5th & Flower, Downtown LA

He's sitting on 84 right now (entering the 9th).

Happy belated birthday Chad!
ERA as a 24-year old: 0.00
It's hard not to get excited about the prospect of Chad and Clayton at the top of the rotation for the next half-dozen or so years.
Think Jones gets another start? We know he credits Defense, and Jones is a better defensive player than JP is, and Torre has to see this offense clicks better when Kemp gets on base.
Sure was great, though!
Congratulations to Chad. I agree that he looked done, but he earned that CG SHO the hard way.
You're about to get Bat-Dad'd.
I thought this was America?
What's it called again? "I fought the .... something and the something... always wins"
Then he says it again.
2009 - 5 mil
2010 - 6 mil
2011 - 8 mil
2012 - 9 mil
2013 - 10 mil (option)
2014 - 11 mil (option)
4 year, $28 million guaranteed, is this a reasonable deal for either side? How about Russell Martin, would a similar contract be reasonable?
FOUR MORE YEARS. :)
