My nephew Benny was on the Spike show Factory that aired on Sunday, titled "Camping." (Click on that episode after you folow the link.) He's the boy in the classroom in the second scene asking all the vexing questions. The show has a lot of improv, and he even came up with some of his own material. Nice job, Benny!

Off-topic, but old friend Carlos Santana makes an appearance on Kevin Goldstein's "Monday Ten Pack" today. He's been raking since the trade, and throwing out baserunners too.

I think its fair to say after three games that Manny Ramirez is going to surpass Pedro Guerrero's June or July 1985 as the greatest offensive month in Dodger history. :)

Manny, Most HR in a Month
Sept 2005 - 12
Sept 1998 - 11 (in only 24 games!)
May 1995 - 11
Sept 2000 - 11
July 2000 - 10 (in 16 games!!!)
July 1995 - 10
Aug 1998 - 10

But probably no more than 4 times. The outcome of the game will depend more heavily on the remainder of the head-to-head battles at the plate.

According to the unnamed scout, LaRoche has little chance against the likes of Haren/Webb. How many major league ballplayers hit good pitchers? Isn't that why they are good pitchers? Isn't that why the guys who do are making 20 Million and can play LF while dreaming of hitting?

I love having Manny for the next three months, but man I hope Andy goes dope for the Pirates over the next eight weeks.

I don't quite understand how Carlos Santana was ignored by Kevin Goldstein all year and doesn't make the ten pack until after the trade. He never had the time of day for Carlos until the trade was made. He also never made the BA Hot list and couldn't even get his name on the daily BA prospect update list. Now he's everywhere but he's not doing anything different then what he's been doing since May 1st.

Projected opposing pitchers for the next two weeks.

Chris Carpenter (Chad)
Joel Pineiro (Lowe)
Kyle Lohse (Kershaw)
Barry Zito (Penny)
Matt Cain (Kuroda)
Kevin Correia (Chad)
Kyle Kendrick (Lowe)
Cole Hamels (Kershaw)
Joe Blanton (Penny)
Brett Myers* (I assuming he remains in rotation) (Kuroda)
Manny Parra (Chad)
Dave Bush (Lowe)
Jeff Suppan (Kershaw)

The game I may have to buy a ticket to is next Tuesday night against the Phillies, Beimel bobblehead night and Hamels vs. Kershaw.

Pitchers that the Dodgers will not face include Tim Lincecum, CC Sabathia, and Ben Sheets.

Zippo-He's 26 in AA and is the oldest position player on the team. His only claim to fame was being part of one of the bad Seattle trades. I think it was Bavasi's 1st trade, to bad for Seattle it wasn't his last.

FWIW, Kershaw has been walking 3.0/9IP since his being called up from Jax the 2nd time around. If he was able to have that 3.0 figure since he was called up orgianlly we're looking at a 3.45 FIP

I'll be at tomorrow night's game, sitting in the left-center bleachers. I'll be able to watch Manny being Manny, as well as Juan being Juan.

It will actually be cooler and less humid in St. Louis tomorrow than it is where I live. Jon, I'm always reminded of your piece, "A Season in Savanah," in which you likened the South's summer weather to living under a "hot, moist towel." Very apt.

James McDonald promoted:

Big day for BayBears' Brito

>> Around the bases: Suns RHP James McDonald took a step closer to the bigs Sunday when he was promoted to Triple-A Las Vegas. McDonald was 5-3 with a 3.19 ERA and a Southern League-best 113 strikeouts with the Suns. Former Suns LHP Eric Cyr will be sent from Las Vegas to Jacksonville to start today's 7:05 p.m. game against BayBears RHP Hector Ambriz (5-12, 5.40). <<

Baseball-reference question.

When you go a player gamelogs you can click on a game and drag to another game, and it automatically adds up those stats from Game "A" to Game "B", is there a way you can do that from Season "A" to Season "B"?

Interesting factoid:

Manny Ramirez hit home runs in back to back games. Before then, when was the last time a Dodger hit a HR in back to back games?

I can't even remember... sometimes we go a long time before the whole team hits HRs in back to back games.

We really need to investigate a Billingsley long term deal.

2009 - $500,000
2010 - $3 million (approx)
2011 - $8 million (approx)
2012 - $12 million (approx)
2013 - Free Agent

Offer him 6 yrs/$45 million. This will buy out two FA years, while still paying Chad an average of $7.5 mill per year. It's fair for both sides.
