Go Dodgers!

With inflation, they now start and stop on a quarter.

You would think that with baseball salaries today, players could afford to turn on more than a quarter.

All Hail my DT Bretheren (and doggies and ducks and small artillery) who have been swept away (upon an island...) by fillies and gnatz whilst I toiled unheeded in the sticks of Colombia. I am here now to join you on the field again to do battle with the dreaded snakes in a stadium. Go gittem Bums!

I like this lineup. Torre shows some flexibility here. Maybe born out of desperation. What I'd really like to see is Kent dropped to sixth, Blake seventh and Nomar eigth.

I had a chance to go to the game tomorrow for free, but had already bought tickets to the University of Arizona football game. I can't say I feel that bad about missing the game. The road trip has deflated my hopes. There's a part of me that wouldn't mind a Snakes sweep for a couple reasons.
A) 0-10 is a pretty unique accomplishment

B) the Dodgers season is like a loved one with a long lingering illness. When they mercifully pass its a relief.

C) Sayonara Ned (fingers crossed)

Lefties were batting .314 against Davis heading into tonight. Ethier doubled and Loney is up.
2008-08-29 18:53:09
27.   oshea2002
This is a big inning/game. Davis is always wild, if we can get in their pen quickly, hopefully we can try and get the pitch counts up the next two nights and get those guys out after 7. I don't see us really scoring off those guys, so a tired pen looks like our best shot.

13- Bob , I'm an Auburn fan so its strictly something to do. I do like the Wildcats basketball team, but they are fallen from grace also.

The University of Arizona is on my obelisk.

In very large letters. Maybe three feet high. I'm thinking of devoting one whole side of the obelisk to the University of Arizona. There could be a bas relief of a drunken Wildcat football fan storming the field after UofA beats New Mexico State 22-21 to clinch a 4-8 season.

159 Because Ned is a PR man, not a scout or one of those newfangled Stat analyst guys. Its a real weakness of his since he's always thinking of potential PR scenarios instead of will the guy help in the field. Notice that in just about every press release about an acquired veteran player, its always about his heart, or how he's a gamer or a grinder. Its almost never about how that player skills can help a ball club. That's because Ned doesn't understand the finer parts of the game, and never cared to learn it, and yet he's a GM of a MLB team.

By the way, the single-season record for left-handed batters for GIDP is... Ben Grieve, 2000, with 32.

With his GIDP tonight, Loney has 22 on the season.

265 Argh, too many Raiders fans here! I need Hallux to protect me. I better hide next Monday. ;-)

I think it will be a close game. Depends on whether the Broncos run defense is as improved as I think it is. If not they could be in for a long night. Could be a high scoring game in fact.

Inside of a dark closet are five hats: three blue and two red. Knowing this, three smart men go into the closet, and each selects a hat in the dark and places it unseen upon his head.

Once outside the closet, no man can see his own hat. The first man looks at the other two, thinks, and says, "I cannot tell what color my hat is." The second man hears this, looks at the other two, and says, "I cannot tell what color my hat is either." The third man is blind. The blind man says, "Well, I know what color my hat is." What color is his hat?

There are some positives from this season so far.

In one of the stupiset things ever said, today on the radio, Vick the Brick advocated that the Dodgers fire Torre and replace him for the remainer of the season with Tommy. I hope for his sake he only pretends to be such a moron.

271 - probably right. I'm glad we don't have to deal with Marshall. I think at least early on, the Raiders defense will be better. I'm guessing the offense will be so bad that they'll wear down throughout the year. D Mac looks like the real deal, but I'm appalled at the WR's we've put around Jamarcus.

Both franchises have similar problems, Al won't die, and Bowlen won't move on from Shanahan, or at least completely strip him of any personnel say.

283 - There's a reason he's called Vic the Brick. And that I don't listen to him.

284 - Indeed, Shanny needs less personnel power, though at least he's kinda figured things out as far as shying away from certain disastrous free agent signings. I like this team's makeup better than the last few years, but we'll see. Raiders definitely dodge a big one with Marshall out for that one game. Yeah, Raiders should have good running game this year, and WR's are a concern. I predict 9-7 for Denver and 7-9 for Oakland.

283 He's been calling for the Dodgers to make Torre the 3rd baseman, and make Bowa the manager for the last couple of days now. This is from the same show that wouldn't ever talk about the Dodgers unless forced to, this is the same station that has a half hour devoted to the Chargers, and never seems to mention the Dodgers. Vic the Brick can go back to New York, and blast the Mets for inane reason for all I care.

I think Toy Cannon said a few days ago that Surrender can be a key to Serenity, and I'm giving in to that. I've seen more bizarre things than the the possibility of this team coming around and taking the crown, but I'm surrending my emotional investment over it.

I'll take Bills and Kershaw's starts, Elbert's and JMac's relief appearences, and all at bats by our young guys in joy, learn to keep score with Timmerman-like precision, and note the interesting things--but this is a 'lost' team to me now.

I really do think the future looks bright baring a total NedCo overhaul, and I'm not as sour on McCourt as others, so I am optimistic about years to come. Then again, I have been for a long time, and, well...

Colts season starts soon though! Hurray.

312 I'm of almost exactly the same mindset, though I have my doubts about the future.

What frustrates me is that veterans are useful precisely to avoid stretches like this. What's the point of all the PVLs on this team if they can't get hits with men on base or keep the roster from feeling like they're snakebitten?

I said it earlier and reiterate it now - it's time to blow this team up. Hopefully Kim Ng or Logan White have a more effective vision for the direction this team should be heading.
