right on.
Ethier just hit one out from Brandon Webb.
1-0 Dodgers.
your in Distrito Federal Bob H?
when I was still running around I met a BEAUTIFUL girl from oaxaca at a club once... I've never been there, is it nice?
If Manny doesn't run there, it's a 6-4-3 double play.
You're right, its not far-fetched at all. I just think Andre is going to end up around 22 though.
man, it would be cool if he could become a 30/30 guy.
4-0 DODGERS.
Casey Blake just wen't DEEP!
In fact, I am asking that we call Casey Blake Chuck Norris.
Webb - 1 K
Manny and Matty - 0 TB (2 runs scored)
hehehehe, I can picture him now.
http://www.oaxacamio.com/oaxacainfo.htm
Anywho, it would behoove the D's offense to try and make Webb face Manny a few more times. I hope some of are guys have a strategy for sinkers.
So my guess we will see the following tomorrow:
RB - Aundre Dean
WR - Tyler Embree, Nelson Rosario, Antwon Moutra
TE- Cory Harkey
DE - Datone Jones
LB - Sean Westgate
CB - Aaron Hester
S - Rahim Moore
Redshirting at this time:
QB - Nick Crissman (may be a medical redshirt)
RB - Derrick Coleman (may be a medical redshirt), Milton Knox, Jonathan Franklin
WR - Jerry Johnson
OL - Connor Bradford, Jeff Baca (may be a medical redshirt)
DE - Damien Holmes
LB - Patrick Larimore
S - E.J. Woods
CB - Tony Dye
P/K - Jeff Locke
Hopefully won't play tomorrow but will be available:
QB - Kevin Prince
Can we just shorten that to TMIMITW?
Seeing Westgate would be a very bad sign I think.
I thought Hester would get playing time, but everyone seems to think he will red-shirt. I am not the biggest fan of zone coverage in the secondary. I like that Hester is a one-on-one guy.
not today though...
PA - 12
AB - 6
hits - 1
ob% 583
slg 167
ops 750
I can see a 40-40 season in Matt's future.
there right, it went really far.
Do you disagree on how feeble a swing that was? That was a contact swing. Of course he didnt want to hit a slow hopper to short, but that was a swing where you can do any type of damage or even lift the ball.
I find some of your comments very insightful, but others seem to include an expectation that hitters should smash the ball every at-bat. Baseball isn't that simple, and sometimes the pitchers just beat the hitters.
A lot of sibilance there; appropriate for a Snakes game
It's really about approach in situations like that. Obviously I know how hard this game is, probably more than most on this site. Do I expect guys to make great contact, swing at nothing but strikes, and have everybody be Albert Pujols? No, but i do expect guys to adjust their approach according to situation. Here is James with the bases loaded, 1 out, and up in the count. You just cant take a swing like that in that situation, fooled or not. I would be totally fine if he took a good cut and hit a 1 hop smash to 2nd for a double play. Getting fooled/jammed in that situation is just really poor hitting.
Oh, Joe Morgan, you're full of insightful nuggets.
>:)
same here.
Who said that was my worst-case scenario? I would actually consider that a good scenario, even with a bad result. Worst case scenario is an at bat like he displayed, with indecision and a poor approach. The result, to me, is less important than the "journey" because in this crazy game, one the ball leaves your bat, you have no control over the situation. I look for players to execute the best they can in the instance that they control, and whatever happens afterwards is out of their control. James' AB wasn't executed very well, and I'm pretty sure he would tell you the same thing.
The look on Kemp's face is, "I got away with one there."
Vinny made mention of that last night.
i've seen Reynolds make an error similar to that not to long ago, clutch error no less.
Look at your original comment. You said Loney tried to make weak contact. That's what I'm arguing with.
I guess we'll just agree to disagree on this.
Nice inning by Lowe.
People with BMWs shouldn't be parking space squatters.
I believe I have the legal right to set their car aflame.
Or I could just track down the person and ask them to move it.
The Nationals have won six games in a row, including today when they were down in the 8th and yesterday when it took a 2 out bases loaded walk in extras.
The Dodgers' playoff hopes live.
That being said, in regards to Tripon's comment at 215 - are you kidding me?
Adam Dunn is a poor fielder.
Or lack thereof.
That would be a very long run.
Jason Varitek?
Bob Carpenter has emailed me with much thanks. I should be able to catch the last week of the season with my brand new TV book.
You may stand down.
Seriously, what the heck? We're going to move MArtin of catcher so we can go after Jason freaking Varitek? And Gammons is referencing our coaches as actually talking seriously about this?
Jason Varitek?
Not a double post.
Morgan is giving Gammons a bit of grief about that.
Not right now.
I didn't think Ron Franklin was allowed out of the SEC or the Big 12.
lol nice handle.
1. Gammons is mad at "passionless" LA for taking Manny.
2. Martin is out third baseman of the future.
3. Morgan chats with Pierre.
4. Blake believes in the fourth out.
Look forward to catching more of this one in the archives tomorrow. (Hopefully they won't collapse in the final innings in historic fashion.)
Nice to see DeWitt contributing -- and much more on defense than Kent, needless to say. Look forward to seeing some of the callups in action, I hope, this coming week, too.
If I were wearing a monocle, it would have fallen off my face and into my cup of tea.
That is, if I had been drinking tea.
Thanks, not sure anyone would get the obscure reference
Tyler Lamb's commitment was just made official.
And another monocle breaks.
Second, he pitched on Friday.
Andy LaRoche was probably gonna be safe, but sure, why not, call it an error and give CC the no-hitter.
Just with a bit of a hiccup.
The "Blogger" theme of the October ads was not my favorite to start with, but was OK so long as it was giving work to that guy who plays the third wheel on "Reaper."
Replace that guy with Jeff Foxworthy and all of a sudden the whole thing makes no sense and I want to claw out my eyes.
I concur.
3TO pitcher!
There's only one October? I'll take any October you wanna give me, thanks.
lol
You can love Maury, but that doesn't make him HOF material.
Bob, did Joe just diss Frank Robinson (he was probably thinking of Jackie Robinson.)
Make me think of Blizzard, which just ruins people's lives.
When someone makes a "HOF" case for an average player, it means that making the case for players that deserve it that much harder.
Wills isn't a borderline HOF player like, say, Jim Rice, where I might vote no, but making the case makes me think about it and refine my argument. Making the case for Wills involves saying things like "Ernie Banks never went to the World Series. Wills went four times!" It's ridiculous, and it means that making the case for truly deserving players becomes that much harder.
Sure, the HOF doesn't really matter, as bh points out. But neither does baseball, for that matter, and I care a lot about that.
But I caught the last few innings tonight, and I am so happy we crushed Haren and Webb. This is a simply amazing feat after getting swept by the Phils and the Nats.
YESSSSSSSS!!
The stuff is obviously electric, but he's been called the best athlete in the organization as well. That is a rare breed.
56 Re Las Vegas: I apologize if this has already been covered, but is Las Vegas changing their nickname? The PCL schedule handed out in Sacramento two nights ago lists the Las Vegas team as the TBAs.
The team was purchased by new owners in March and they immediately announced that they would be dropping the 51's name after this season. I think they may be planning on holding some type of contest for a new name but I'm not sure about that. You might be able to find the article in the Las Vegas newspaper's archives.
Kent has a torn meniscus, will have surgery on Tuesday.
>> The new owners have announced that they intend to change the team's name for the 2009 season, potentially opening the process to a public vote. <<
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Las_Vegas_51s
I suggest Minotaurs, Bisons, or Loney Bombs.
Jason Giambi would not like those names.
I guess you missed 250 .
Hope we can pull in a good guard for 09.
Never would I have thought the Dodgers would slam the two best pitchers in baseball back to back. This is phenomenal!
I'm not too concerned about the playoff race right now... I'm too humble from last week.
The Dodgers know they can't let up against the Padres, who always always ALWAYS beat them, so we will see if LA can build on the momentum.
btw this will be the first time we see the Padres since the Manny trade. Can't wait to check it out!
Not sure about the two best pitchers in baseball.
I have to believe no matter what happens, it will be more entertaining than last year's game against Notre Dame.
Oh, yes! Just seeing young players that should be real good in the future is entertaining.
Oh, sweet! Tracy just put up a new post that gives more for us to be happy about.
The best pitchers in baseball right now are Roy Halladay, CC Sabathia, and Tim Lincecum, with considerable mention for Cliff Lee.
Did I say one of the best? Nay! to be sure, the greatest of all time!
This who find it repugnant can only look at his numbers since they are to young to have ever seen him play.
He ended up with a total of 214 win shares which ain't easy. If he isn't HOF material he certainly is a player whose number probably should have been retired. He was the greatest Los Angeles SS ever in both peak years and career numbers.
http://tinyurl.com/trueblueWS-SS
He did have 6 out of 10 of the greatest years for a LA Dodger Shortstop. How many LA Dodgers have ever received MVP votes in six different seasons?
The idea that the Dodgers should only retire HOF players is out dated. The idea is to retire great Dodgers and Maury Wills was one of the greatest even if his heyday was before the time of most members here. At least I got to see him in 1971 and in his late years he still put up a better season then the best season Bill Russel had in him.
http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/08245/908533-63.stm
Just to be devil's advocate, the Dodgers already have retired more numbers than most teams outside of the Bronx. I could see expanding the criteria beyond Hall of Famers and Junior, but I'm not sure the criteria should be "greatest player at a position the Dodgers have been pretty weak at" or "being better than Bill Russell."
Wills was overrated, in my opinion. There's a reason his stats don't stand the test of time, while those of Jackie or Snider do. Doesn't mean that if you love Wills, you have to stop, but I'd be wary of retiring his number. If you open up the retired numbers to good-but-not-great players, you're going to get into the kind of debate where some people won't be happy until about 25 numbers are retired. Russell, for example, surely would be on that list for some - he was a Dodger for 30 years. And then the next Manny Ramirez will end up wearing #199.
I exaggerate, but you get my drift. Good topic, though.
vr, Xei
i also got a text from a source (he was wrong on a commit he called a while back) but he said look for Honeycutt to commit in the next week or so and I went on the board and say Tracy's post, so you know its legit!!
Good times...now let's hope Chow can work some miracles tomorrow!
I know the stats indicate that as far as Hall of Fame goes he might not have enough to make it in, but for the Dodgers to retire his number for me it is a no brainer.
His 1962 season was brilliant and his 102 steals and I believe 30 out of 31 steals of third had a great impact on the Dodgers great season. The loss of Sandy in the last month probably cost the Dodgers the pennant.
The Dodgers pitching in the 60's was special, but their offense was not, Wills was an extra special part of the offense. In bringing up Bill Russell who I also enjoyed, in my mind the offensive contribution of Davey Lopes, Garvey or Cey was far more important.
Wills in addition to being a very good shortstop, was seen as a team leader. It is for those reasons he should have his number retired.
Yep, definitely good times. Especially with all the lack of recruiting news for days, it is great to get things rolling again.
Hopefully we can steal Gaddy from Arizona.
My concern is: How many Dodgers would meet this qualification since they began issuing uniform numbers? Twenty? Forty?
>> The front office spent part of Sunday trying to make a waiver deal for a middle infielder. The Giants earlier rejected overtures for Omar Vizquel, but another candidate could be Tadahito Iguchi, cut loose by the Padres on Sunday. <<
