by Jon Weisman

The last Dodger game I went to was my 300th victory since 1991, when I began keeping track of my record at Dodger games I attended. Though I did not get the game ball, I'm hoping that my career 300-236 record will get me to Cooperstown. After all, that is the benchmark, isn't it?

Unless my postseason record (1-9) is held against me:

1977 World Series Game 3 - L
1981 NLCS Game 2 - L
1983 NLCS Game 1 - L
1995 NLDS Game 1 - L
1995 NLDS Game 2 - L
1996 NLDS Game 1 - L
1996 NLDS Game 2 - L
2004 NLDS Game 3 - W
2004 NLDS Game 4 - L
2006 NLDS Game 3 - L

Hopefully, tonight will begin to change all that.

Heartfelt condolences to you and your family, Dodgers49. Cancer took someone close to me, too, and it's an awful thing. Glad the Dodgers can give you some small comfort right now. Hope they keep on winning. But we'll be here either way. :-)

After teaching a class today, and then getting stuck in the "Love Fest" traffic here in SF (and I was on my bike!) after getting stuck in the Oktoberfest crowds, I shake my fist at this place for scheduling all this on the same day and am happy to be going nowhere except my living room to watch the Dodgers tonight.

Rooting for the Brewers to finish this game off, too.

I was hoping to go watch the game tonight with all the tormented Cubs fans at the bar down the street. Unfortunately, I've come down sick, so I'll have to confine my cheering to my couch. And drink hot tea instead of beer. Ugh.

This sucks, but a Dodger win will make me feel much better.

It boggles my mind that the same Salomon Torres who blew the Giants' season on the last day in 1993 against the Dodgers, is still a major league baseball player.

One thing that's really encouraging is that Martin is tearing the cover off the ball. He looks rested and rejuvenated and focused just at the right time.

290 You're right, of course; I was only referring to the possibility of shutting out a heavily favored team with a great offense, at Dodger stadium in the NLDS, with the crowd going progressively more crazy. In any case, though, Kuroda has thrown too many pitches to end up with the CG.

The TBS crew was giving props to the Dodgers during the later innings. Innings 8th and 9th were basically saying that "Yeah, the Dodgers really are this good. Of course they're beating the Cubs!" TBS weren't always on Cubs deathwatch tonight.

And FSN hhas the celebration.

2008-10-04 22:22:54

737 I disagree. They gave the Dodgers props a bunch of times. Darling and Gwynn both said they had clutch hits, they outpitched the Cubs, they made very few mistakes. I heard that several times and then again after the game just a few minutes ago.

But I'm glad you're happy! :-)

Okay, gonna finish this drink, have a snack, come down off the high, and then go to sleep since I have an early AM soccer game.

After the back-to-back home-and-home sweeps, I told my Phillies-fan former student that I would be rooting for a Dodgers-Phillies NLCS. But it would be nice for the Dodgers to have home field in the series.

But I don't even care. This is just too awesome. Just too awesome.

Fantastic game. Fantastic.

It's hard not to love Cory Wade, despite the run tonight. He just pounds the strike zone.

And Broxton - after all the doubts raised about him this year, how sweet was it to see him nail the final four batters? He deserved this. What a great outing for him. Seeing him pump his fist and yell in victory was very sweet.

I don't want to look ahead, I just want to focus on how I feel right now... and I feel very, very good.

It was so great to see Broxton have his big moment. As a former Utah resident I was rooting for Wade early on this season, nice to see how good he has ended up for us. What a satisfying series all around. The kids showed up like we knew they could. Awesome seeing Nomar and Kent's reactions on the field after the game. I'm looking forward to the future, but here's to enjoying this right now.

I'm a bit concerned about our bats. Lots of swinging for the fences by Ethier/Kemp tonight (and this whole series). At least they have a lot of time to get well.

Lowe is the perfect pitcher to go in Citizen's bank park. Having a sinkerballer is huge.

What a great game. I can't believe I got out of the stadium so fast. I've been home for 15 minutes. Had a very nice time sitting with Brock and his dad. My Cubs fan friend had another Cubs fan next to him so they could commiserate. And thanks again to BHSportsguy for the tickets.

Loney and Martin were great. Was the consensus that Martin was safe on that play at third?

Do we still think Broxton isn't a closer?

I feel like I must be going crazy, but the Dodgers really look like a team of destiny to me right now. Everything is working, and it's more than just luck. The team is peaking now, and there is no better time for it.
