The last Dodger game I went to was my 300th victory since 1991, when I began keeping track of my record at Dodger games I attended. Though I did not get the game ball, I'm hoping that my career 300-236 record will get me to Cooperstown. After all, that is the benchmark, isn't it?
Unless my postseason record (1-9) is held against me:
1977 World Series Game 3 - L
1981 NLCS Game 2 - L
1983 NLCS Game 1 - L
1995 NLDS Game 1 - L
1995 NLDS Game 2 - L
1996 NLDS Game 1 - L
1996 NLDS Game 2 - L
2004 NLDS Game 3 - W
2004 NLDS Game 4 - L
2006 NLDS Game 3 - L
Hopefully, tonight will begin to change all that.
* * *
I so wish I had tickets. I'll be watching on T.V.
After teaching a class today, and then getting stuck in the "Love Fest" traffic here in SF (and I was on my bike!) after getting stuck in the Oktoberfest crowds, I shake my fist at this place for scheduling all this on the same day and am happy to be going nowhere except my living room to watch the Dodgers tonight.
Rooting for the Brewers to finish this game off, too.
But where were you during the '88 playoffs?
This sucks, but a Dodger win will make me feel much better.
And I thought the same thing Jon, you must have been really busy or out of town in '88.
anyways, me & my buddy drove by Dodger Stadium that day & felt the electricity of the night, I'm sure it FEELS LIKE that today...
Gee if we get through this round I will have to make my somewhat crude hook-up to FOX, which I normally don't have.
man, I hope not.
it says "Titanic" in the previews bro!
(commercials right now though)
the good or the bad...
Ken,
I am from Danville. Live in Roanoke now. Small world.
Of all the guys who played in that game in '93, Torres outlasted everyone.
no clue man, hopefully it's nothing bad...
from what I understand he didn't pitch for a few years so he saved his arm that way you think?
Darn. Hi everybody, I hope you all are as excited as I am.
Let's go Dodgers!
you have me curious now man... can you give us a short version please?
And let the whining in Chicago begin.
I honestly don't think I could deal with the excitement. I'd puke or passout.
Russ was thinking that Theriot would come up with it and then have a play on him at third.
Hard play to judge and he was being cautious.
PLEASE!
Wicked awesome throw.
Good to see Harden at least looking hittable.
Go Dodgers!!! Woohooo!!!!!!!
Vin's tone was stern.
I was thinking the same thing. It seems a little too gimmicky for a team as steeped in tradition as the Dodgers.
79 Exactly. They can have that stuff at Anaheim, but not here. Sigh.
man that's cold...
Other than that I'm assuming we'd have a PVL as our mascot. The Scowling Jeff Kents.
you guys are cruel.
Re: Dodgers home record
They were 48-33, not as good as the Cubs of course (but who is?). Thanks, that is all.
And so far Kuroda looks great. If he keeps this up and we go on to the NLCS, that's a great 3 man rotation.
they've gotten into it over the years, i'm on the Phanatic's side... especially cause Vinnie once said that the ORIGINAL Philly Phanatic was hard of hearing.
Nice bit of pitching.
--
And way to pitch out of it Kuroda. I would think he'd be on a short leash tonight, with the magnitude of this game and the number of relievers long and short at the ready.
On that topic, I'll take rally towels over the annoying PA prompted noise (Freeze! Everybody clap your hands!).
that is all.
i wonder were he bought it at.
Dre just missed that one, whoo boy.
No, they were reporting this about him, in his last couple of starts his velocity was down though he'd reported no pain or anything.
And 1-2-3 inning from Hiro one of these days.
This is gonna go the bullpens pretty soon.
I'm not sure why, but I think DeWitt is going to be a good ball player.
i think he slipped. rushed it.
Ethier, great speed?
(Dick is a common shortening of Richard)
Okay, this could be Kuroda's last inning. He's gotta be on a short leash.
Why does it not feel like its that high?
But you have to admit he has been dynamite.
343 I know what you mean. I still have that vague feeling that "something (bad) is going to happen".
Frustration is setting in.
I have nothing against the guys on the Cubs so I feel for them a bit IF this is to be it. But remembering back to the number of cocky Cubs fans at Dodger Stadium earlier in the year, I have less sympathy for them today.
Let's get an insurance run, though, Dodgers.
Let's go Bison!
Wade
Beimel
Closer for tonights game (clinch)
SAITO
No negations.
I don't know how I feel about that, given how bad Sammy looked in Game 2. But I don't know who else to use. This is where we really miss Kuo.
*negotiations
And with a dearth of left-handed hitters on the Cubs, it's harder to find a place for Beimel. Wade and Broxton 8 and 9 would be the plan. Unless Kuroda falters here.
And Kuroda gets the first out.
As someone in Slingblade said eeyap, the put me in the nervous hospital.
Okay, time to call the Cory Hotline again.
Maybe he has a cold. =/
He does sound a little tired.
they said he probably wouldn't have had a chance anyway.
{nailbiting time}
Actually, Biemel's has a better BA allowed against righties versus lefties.
That ball really took off.
All right, everyone on the scale.
No Saito tonight.
Keep it up Cory!!
I'm sure your right but I just don't trust him. YET.
this guy goes the other way for protection.
Sorry.
I just believe that much in the Blue Ox!
i don't think I watched that game. i guess you guys are right.
he did have that arm thing.
Everyone on the Cubs has the playoff yips.
I'm in Nova Scotia, Canada, working on a film. There is a Dodger jersey hanging in my room and I'm watching gameday on a very slow (2Mb/sec) connection. Now I know how the non-LA DT posters feel. Went to about 30 games this year, and left just in time to miss the playoffs.
If I'm very lucky, I'll be back in time for the WS in Dodger Stadium.
OH MAN!! LOL!
Here we go! {gulp}
i'm glad DT exist. Thanks Jon.
Okay, I peeked out from under the dust ruffle.
Thanks. Been around DT for 3 seasons now.
Striking out the side would be a good momentum-builder for the NLCS.
C'mon Ox!!
97.7% after the first out.
99.4% after the second out.
heart racing!!!
101 as in years?
CONGRATS DODGERS and DTers!!
Congrats to everyone here. we sure as heck deserve it.
Now, can we put to rest the stuff about Broxton not having the stuff to close? That was about as big as it gets and he came up as huge as his waist size there. How sweet it is.
HIGH FIVES!!!!!!!!!!
Onward to glory!
that's right, yes!
I'm on cloud nine.
wooooooooooooo!
i'm getting a ton of texts is right now!
yeah!!
YESSSSSSSS!!!!! SWEEEP!!!!
Meh. He thanked God and his agent. Sounds like an Oscar speech.
We're playing our best ball of the season now, with our best line-up, and I think we're going to be hard to stop.
And FSN hhas the celebration.
But I'm glad you're happy! :-)
Okay, gonna finish this drink, have a snack, come down off the high, and then go to sleep since I have an early AM soccer game.
Pleasant dreams, Dodger fans. :-D
Whoooo hoooooooooooooooooooooo
741 Did Boras fax you? LOL, j/k don't swing!
Ha ha. What a series, and yes, the young core did it. To be sure, Ramirez & Lowe, and the kids! Yay!
No way that lasts.
Check out Loney sporting the sweet goggles for his contacts.
But I don't even care. This is just too awesome. Just too awesome.
What a feeling. What a feeling.
No: Fukudome and Ward don't count.
Joe Torre
Loney: Uh...not, that would be Mark Sweeney.
hhahahaahahah!
Joe, what is it like to win a series away from the Yankees?
Manny, what is it like to win a series away from the Red Sox?
It's hard not to love Cory Wade, despite the run tonight. He just pounds the strike zone.
And Broxton - after all the doubts raised about him this year, how sweet was it to see him nail the final four batters? He deserved this. What a great outing for him. Seeing him pump his fist and yell in victory was very sweet.
I don't want to look ahead, I just want to focus on how I feel right now... and I feel very, very good.
Hey Pedro Gomez, how is it to live without Barry Bonds in your life?
719 , you clearly did not read the 9,000 Words Of Bill Simmons Theses ;)
Enjoy this night peepz, you and the men in blue have certainly earned it!
Mark Cuban must be salivating at the dropping price of the Cubs.
I love this.
Manny Ramirez was the better defensive left fielder this series.
Lowe is the perfect pitcher to go in Citizen's bank park. Having a sinkerballer is huge.
woo!
Loney and Martin were great. Was the consensus that Martin was safe on that play at third?
Do we still think Broxton isn't a closer?
This is awesome. Twenty years of nothing makes this so much sweeter.
