Happy New Year, Dodger Thoughts and all those involved.

Some last bit of Manny "news" (by way of MLBtraderumors.com) before the end of 2008:

Agent Scott Boras left a voicemail message for Dodgers general manager Ned Colletti on Tuesday, and Colletti left a voicemail as well for Boras on Wednesday. With the New Year's holiday, it wasn't clear when the two sides would actually connect.

But at least they are trying to talk, which is a significant improvement from most of the past two months. The Dodgers made the free-agent outfielder an initial offer of two years for $45 million plus an option year at $15 million during the General Managers Meetings in November.

&Published reports continue to indicate that the Nationals have serious interest in free-agent slugger Manny Ramirez. Not so, according to a baseball source who asked not to be identified.*

the Nationals are overloaded with right-handed-hitting outfielders, plus he's 36 years old. The Nationals have often said that they are looking for players for the long term.

Lowe to keep shopping; Red Sox not involved

>> According to a source familiar with the negotiations, Derek Lowe is likely to continue shopping for a more desirable offer after the New York Mets presented him with a three-year, $36 million offer on Tuesday. <<

Happy New Year's everyone! Have fun and be safe.

Btw, Evite is going on my Obelisk tonight. They chose the busiest party night of the year -- including my own party -- to go down for hours. Nice work!

Happy New Year everyone. I'm staying in, it's amateur night. Tomorrow morning, I'll walk the dogs and look for the stealth bomber pre-parade. They always circle above my area.

On the commercial they said that is 8 hours of live look-ins with their own MLB cameras in each stadium. With analysis. Finally the baseball tonight monopoly is broken. Now I don't have to endure gammons and those ridiculous sunglasses of his.

Feels appropriate to share this somehow, given the festivities of the eve and the collective family wisdom gathered here: the gift my wife and I gave to each other came in the form of a very happy blood test.

A baby.

A new year baby, in a sense.

Which makes for a special (if sober!) celebration this eve.

Thanks to all who make this a great place!
