Dodger Draft Pick Cancer-Free
2005-10-12 20:57
by Jon Weisman

Four months after he was diagnosed with Burkitt's Lymphoma, 2005 23rd-round draft pick Jayson Whitehouse underwent tests this week that revealed no evidence of any cancer in his body. Many congratulations!

Whitehouse still has an issue with a blood clot - it was a blood clot that brought him to the doctor in the first place back in June - but the overall news is a great relief to Whitehouse and his supporters.

That is great news

I can hardly wait to see him in a Dodger uniform soon. What a great inspiration for others battling any sort of cancer.

fantastic. I hope all the best for him. Hey, it would be great to see him on the mound at Dodger Stadium. At the very least he should throw out the first pitch to start the 2006 home season.

Who knows if he'll be able to pitch again. Hopefully, he can just stay healthy and have a good life.

3- that would be a nice gesture

Did the Dodgers draft both people in the picture? I think the woman on the left would be easier to sign.

Good news. The Dodgers need another Jayson.

2 - Tommy, the Baseball America draft database says he hasn't been signed. I assume this means the Dodgers figured he might not even survive, and hence have not offered him a contract.

Nice news to hear. My grandmother passed earlier this year due to cancer. It's always good to know that people can still beat it.

I would assume that any draft pick who has an injury or illness and isn't signed already, won't get signed until the team is sure that the player is going to be OK.

I believe the Lakers and the NBA are trying to determine just who should pay for Rony Turiaf's heart surgery.

Well, not to sound like Bill Plaschke, but Jayson Whitehouse just got an extension on the only contract that matters. I'm so happy for his family.

Ratt, Plaschke only wishes he could come up with such a good line.

Plaschke won't write about him. He didn't grow up in LA, dreaming about playing for the Dodgers.

Now if he was drafted by the Angels...

Scareduck,
What a perfect opportunity to offer him a chance, eh? I think he at least should get an invitation when he is ready. What a great thing that would be.
