Something I forgot to mention from Opening Day: The enormous bottle of bottled water the Dodgers force you to buy (if you want to buy water, that is) does not fit in the newly installed seat cupholders. That's the case, at least, on the Loge Level.
I'm not complaining about the cupholder - I just wish they sold two sizes of water.

Update: The Sandy Alomar, Jr. Personal Catcher (TM) is not working as advertised - Alomar's 2 for 2 performance notwithstanding. Odalis Perez apparently had some technical difficulties with it.
Update 2: I'll have the right side of the menu, please. Second baseman Jeff Kent and first baseman Olmedo Saenz left the game in the bottom of the fourth inning after each grimaced on awkward plays in the top of the fourth.
Update 3: Vin says that Kent has a bruised tricep from being hit by a pitch, and Saenz has a troubled back from a collision on an infielder roller with Alomar. They are listed as day to day. Translation: "IT'S A COOKBOOK!!!"
Update 4: Dodger Thoughts reader Gold Star for Robot Boy passed along the news that the Dodgers released Dave Roberts tradee Henri Stanley, according to Baseball America.
I'll be the guy in the Team South Africa cap. I hope that those colors don't start a ruckus.
Unfortunately, I don't think you can find hot chocolate or coffee with a seal on it. That weather for this evening not-looka-so-good.
Layers, my friend.
I'm going home for another layer too.
I'm not getting out my November prep football game in the High Desert gear yet. Nothing is more fun than a nice brisk night at Edwards AFB in the rain.
The only thing I can fill in to make sense is: because the Angels want his arm to fall off by the All-Star break so they can bring up his brother Jered.
3 - Sure, blame the victim :)
10 Sometimes I think my corner in downtown (7 & Fig) is a wind tunnel.
I guess I don't look like a criminal.
Thumbs up to the new section numbering system, at least on the Loge level. Should help cut down on the aimless wandering. They eliminated the B,B,D,D row numbering as well. For some reason there is no row Q. Is this another 1962 throwback?
"It seems to me that the Nationals no longer want Ryan Church around, ever since he suffered the toe injury last year. Why don't the Nationals just trade him?
-- Vince, A, Denver
I think the Nationals want Church to be part of the organization. In fact, Church's No. 1 fan is general manager Jim Bowden. However, many in the organization have heard enough of Church's excuses, especially when it comes to his body.
For example, Church said he was run down during Spring Training. People in the organization were stunned when they found out about that particular statement. The organization is hoping that Church will get mentally tougher in the Minor Leagues.
I also don't see the Nationals trading Church unless they get something phenomenal in return."
Sounds like JD Drew...we'll take him.
How do these trades sound
Izturis (all star, gold glover) and Tomko for Livan Hernandez and Ryan Church
Izturis for Scott Baker or Jason Kubel
Any other ideas?
implausible.
11 -- did you post this before or after Weaver got predictably hammered in the seventh?
OBP/SLG
Repko- .281/.384 8 HR 5 steals
Edmonds- .270/.344
Hunter- .309/.380 9 HR 10 steals
A. Jones- .265/.443 5 HR
Damon- .313/.368 6 HR
Ty Cobb (yes Ty Cobb!) .288/.300 1 HR 2 steals
Tris Speaker .262/.276 3 steals
Duke Snider .297/.450 5 HR 4 steals
Max Carey (at 24, the same age as Repko was last year) .313/.347 1 HR
All the players on the list were either all stars or are in the hall fame, except Repko (not yet).
i like everts, but hes still coming back from TJ.
Anybody notice pseudo-old friend Brian Meadows put up this load today?
1 2/3 IP, 8 H, 1 BB, 8 ER, 0 K
for a sterling 43.20 ERA after his first appearance. I smell a DFA!
I love our 1-5 right now.
7 Repko
8 Alomar
Repko .625/.667/.875 1.542
lefty/righty?
Meanwhile,
Beltran .000/.250/.000 .250
though i do love that arm...
... or it might be only two games into the season. At this time last year jose valentin and ceasar izturis started off real well.
Why?
Oh, the irony!
Apparently nobody told them they were washed up.
doubt it. they always find a way.
furcal didnt...
Perez isn't very good. No way he's a #3 starter.
Now lets all pray he can get back to that.
No chance of that.
Penny is a #2 or 3
Lowe is a #2 or 3
Perez is a #4
Tomko well nevermind
Seo is a mystery to me
And as i type perez's luck just ran out.
Twenty Four little hours
What a difference a day makes
And the difference is....
Two men down.
I dont know whether to sing praises or roll in the mud.
I go into Ralph's with the Dodgers leading 5-1. I return home to discover it's 5-5 and the bases are loaded with no out.
Joy.
Edit: 6-5.
Whatever!
Carter pours gasoline on the fire. Impressive.
Good point, Jon. It was all Alomar's fault.
Classic.
is LOST on yet? + 20 minuets to record
Maybe he just decided to take the nite off.
I'm just relieved that it is a 'personal' catcher experiment.
I thought Grits was playing Alomar just to play him.
Is Sandy Jr going to get 40% of the at bats this year?
Not good. Unless the 1-4 plan on hitting .600 the rest of the year.
half way to all star level!
That's "Bologna"
229 - I think most of us look more tired as we get older.
Not over my shrieks, no
Steve and Ms. Minnelli are on a first-name basis.
Kent's got a bruised tricep, but the news is worse for Saenz, who hurt his back. Both are day-to-day.
-- Dodger Stadium slogan
Apparently they're planning on converting the outfield to a sandbox, since the Dodgers aren't catching much there that the Braves are hitting.
Almost a great play at second.
Let's get the bats going again against this suspect pen!
i was worrying when the first one would come.
sorry everyone.
Although it's probably better than the "My Dinner with Andre" arcade game, as seen in The Simpsons.
Oh well. I probably would have watched the Clippers game anyways, since it's so late in the season.
The Braves announcers are saying that it hit Loney on the thumb. It looked like his wrist to me.
The umpire is really squeezing Osoria.
I didn't know it was on TBS either...Argh!
Bad trade. Dodgers should have gotten more in return.
Quick hook on Boyer, too bad Reitsma's just as bad.
It's the only way I can explain it. Can we go get Carlos Pena now?
At some point, Ive stopped being stressed and been overwhelmed by the humour of seeing these guys maimed and limping on almost every play. It really is funny in a way that playing this game seems deadly to these guys. My family never could quite understand my uncontrolled laughter over the three stooges and the Pink Panther movies, but this has turned a sad night into entertainment!
Nevermind. furcal is ok.
I need to check the numbers, but doesn't it seem that around MLB scoring is up - way up - through these first three days?
Alomar
Repko
(Navarro)
Seeing Loney scream reminded me of Wes Parker.
If repko gets injured we allways have guzman, which actually would be an upgrade.
Bad luck with injuries, the dodger way.
you have two mounds in the bullpen, you should utilize them.
I guess i got spoiled by the 2003 starting pitching, since then it has been a disaster.
Oh yeah Grady Little is now G Dawg. Or Little G
whichever you prefer.
That's a good question.
I hope so.
heh, i didnt go opening day.
These and many more questions will be answered in a zone I like to call the night night zone.
I went to my morning class at 8 and then skipped rest of classes and flipped through all the games. Plus there was UCLA game.
And by the way, why didn't grady use seo today?
But anyways getting back to my point, if billingsley can get it together, we can move the worst of the 2 of tomko or perez to the pen as a long reliever, and if they complain then you know you have a selfish player on your hands.
Kent should be ok as long as that pitch didnt break any bones.
Saenz tweaked his back. He's old. That will happen. Loney should be playing everyday up here anyways.
Furcal's injury looked pretty bad though. If its serious, bring the Destroyer up and let him play SS.
38 hits
32 singles
1 home run
How long can the team keep scoring runs through hitting singles? Not sure.
he pitched almost 3 innings yesterday.
Seo pitched 3 innings yesterday.
if they keep getting on base, they will keep scoring runs. OBP is the best correlation for runs scored.
i would really like VB to update their roster. and i would really like dodgers.com to write an article about the minor league rosters.
ooopppsss, i forgot.
oh come on we scored like 10 runs off hudson and smoltz.
Tomko vs Jimmy Rollins on Friday.
im expecting 3 homeruns at least.
True.
Its just the rest of the runs were off of nobody pitchers.
so? wouldnt you be more worried if we didnt score any runs off those nobody pitchers?
i really cant see how anyone can be dissapointed with the offensive output for the dodgers in this series. if our starters were halfway decent, we would have had a sweep.
Right.
But i'm just saying that it wasn't as tho we were up against 3 solid starters(only 2) and a solid bullpen (braves bullpen sucks, excuse my language).
what happens if Jeff Kent gets injured or just needs a day off. The power/rbi production really goes down.
Exactly, and add furcal to that with what happened to him today.
As for the game itself, the big mistake was not putting the team in position to get Gagne in the game. I called Dodger Talk and said that we should have had Baez out there in the 8th inning with an 8-8 tie, and then throw Gagne out there in the 9th inning with a one-run lead or even in a tie ballgame, especially with the day off tomorrow. It just doesn't make sense to not have your best relief pitcher out there with the game on the line. The same can be said with Torre's Yankees yesterday and his leaving Scott Procter to lose the game rather than Rivera....
Nonetheless, it was a successful outing for me personally. I would say a good 70-80% of my 1000 tickets actually went to use and hopefully I can make this an annual Dodger outing for my clients/prospective clients.... and Dodger Thoughts readers. My Elijah prayers for no rain apparently were heard by the Big Dodger in the Sky.
Steve et al: I hope you are all thrilled you'll get to see your favorite SS in person! Only 18 more games to catch Joe D...
To all the "Lost" watchers (and I'll try not to give anything away here): have any of you read "Pale Fire" by Nabokov? I strongly suspect whoever wrote tonight's episode is very familiar with that book. If anyone is interested:
http://www.libraries.psu.edu/nabokov/wpale.htm
I'll catch up with everything I've missed here this weekend sometime, just wanted to check in and say hey, and I love these new Dodgers; they look like the 2003 Red Sox offense combined with the 2005 Dodger pitching!
Peace,
das411
According to the same Baseball America link at the top, the Brewers released Jason Romano.
