Khalil Greene looked like Spicoli. I'm unsure if any photo editing software was used.
Random DBacks fan: "You gotta do it for Short Chris Young, and Upton, and Jackson, and Webb, and Byrnsie....well, not so much Byrnsie."
Maybe Daron took Garvey's side in "The Fight".
I just googled the image, to funny.
Sometimes I call him "Kooky"
Does anyone have that March or April list of predictions on how many games the team would win?
I've noticed my post's are getting wordier lately, It must be a defense against the D's being in a tight spot.
Late Arrival Time?
Gen3Blue meant to say that he's really happy.
By the way deke is a good word I learned watching hockey. I play this word game somewhat like Scrabble and trying to come up with four letter words of this form C_C_
where C is a consonant deke is on of a few that useds two e's. Like cede and very few others.
Fortunately it was there in the Official Scrabble Dictionairy, a wonderfully liberal compendium.
There is more to life for him after that Amy Fisher incident afterall.
Hey, I learned not to make fun of Bonifacio earlier in the week.
I could be wrong.
Nope, you're right. I was just being difficult and/or funny and/or unfunny.
The total winning percentage of predictions was .550, an average record of roughly 89-73.
Brad Penny is a source of h. pylori?
We're going to light up Davis tonight.
The Giants will win.
Gotta Believe my friends.
In sadder news, I'm not happy that the MLB Extra Innings has the DBack announcers instead of Vinny. I shudder to think of the "LETSGETSOMERUNS!!!!" yelp that I know is coming in the sixth inning.
Kemp with two long ones tonight my friends. And Martin with one.
Penny with 30 plus pitches so far. We need to put up some crooked numbers.
1. Dodgers
2. Giants
3. DBacks
4. Rockies
5. Space for rent
6. Padres
You may choose which ever meaning you prefer.
it reminded of when the tigers were in LA last year and Bondo was on the mound. He gave up a homerun to jeff kent and just let out this primal roar like a caged beast.
it was sexy.
If only the Dodgers could put together an inning like that once in a while.
& to top it all off, he even says HE KNOWS Nomar isn't 100%, wow, just wow. [shaking head]
I have never heard Vin speak with such thinly veiled disgust about a player as he does with JP.
ok im sorry.
I really shouldn't be making observations like this. I'll stop typing now.
Nope, I'm sober....and doing homework. on a friday night.
I'm awesome.
serious, Icaros??
1) Rockies
2) D-Backs
3) Padres (dislike radio more than TV)
4) Dodgers (non Vin)
5) Giants
I think Gagne is officially marked "For emergency use only"
Mmm! (I thought it was more)
Is it some fear of silence?
A unconscious compulsion?
A personality disorder?
Or just a broadcasting style he believes in?
Perhaps you are confusing Vin Scully with some other announcer.
Remember that in the first three innings, it's a simulcast.
Roberrrrrrto! is on his way.
And there are still no outs.
It was me, I really feel management has to address the bad running BY ALL PLAYERS it just doesn't look right when everybody looks like little leaguers, know what I mean?
ps I'm exaggerating to make a point by the way.
Yep. I wasn't playing that day, but I did face him in a JC summer school exhibition game a couple years later and managed a Juan Pierre single off him.
The coach admonished him for wasting a curve on a hitter like me. Ouch.
That's a cool story man!
The question is, did your coach make himself run when his base coaching caused the screw up? That seems to be the case with the Dodgers. It's a combination of bad running decisions and bad coaching.
One walk, one HBP (on what would have been ball 4), and another 3 ball count. Lots and lots of fastballs.
And a celebratory primal scream to end the inning after two strikeouts!
Hopefully spring training will take care of that, seriously it's been bad for 2 years already, I really hope they address it in SP.
My other one is that I struck out an 18-year-old shortstop from Vacaville named Jermaine Dye on a changeup in the dirt.
He was batting left-handed (working on switch-hitting), but it still counts.
Sorry to those of you who've already heard my minor claims to fame. I'll stop mentioning it when they retire.
Kemp, with his single, is at .891 season and .831 career.
I think you are not factoring in the fact that Vin works alone. He may talk more individually than other announcers, but he talks less than the combined efforts of most all 2+ announcing teams.
There's a one word answer to your original question: radio.
My only claim to fame is that I played along side a guy that played professionally in Mexico , one that played for the Dodgers low A team San Bernandino & other that played or was drafted by the phillies I'm not exactly sure about the last one though.
Loney's streak is one of 22 3-gamers in LA Dodger history.
http://www.bb-ref.com/pi/shareit/B4BH
That's all I'll say on it. Vin has style and class, and that's good enough for me in this day and age.
The d'backs' GameDay photos are all muy unflattering.
I'm going to the Encyc. to see If I can remember. He was a man of color with a colorful name.
There's still time. Rickey Henderson could join that Sunday league you're playing in if the Mets ever let him go as base coach.
Currently, Loney is at .913 season and .910 career.
Bad OPS tracker:
Furcal - .688
Pierre - .679
Nomar - .678
First to .700 wins!
So one of our biggest rivals has both Kirk Gibson and Dave Hansen as coaches. How did we let this happen?
Nomar retakes the OPS lead over Pierre, .681 to .679.
No more.
it would be even nicer if he could win the game. That means we have to get to this Davis, and checking game day makes me wonder even more why he appears like more than an average pitcher to the D's .
What cheering-what happened, did Kent and Nomar get a hit is the same inning.
That would merit champaign. But just get into the bullpen before the 7 will make me happy.
This place is officially loud.
Mark Grace officially likes to use the word officially.
If you want him to firebomb your car after the game.
meant luck. Thats such a huge out right there. C'mon Brad, help yourself.
That must be wrong.
They are going to bat Penny and pull him next inning. I can't believe it, even thow he is an OK batter for a pitcher, the percentages say he makes an out.
I don't know but I think he's pretty funny.
I'm telling you he's been pretty bad this year, he'll be better in '08.
Bob, I don't know if two teams can be more annoying than these announcers.
(That's right, it's all about me.)
.913 season, .910 career
Ya, but its more fun to blame bad luck than bad Penny. And I have to blame someone.
I'm sorry for talking smack
sincerly, Bluebleeder!!!!!!
How dare he.
WOOHOO!
I am not saying any manger would have done it, especially with a guy trying to rack up accounting credits for a Cy Young bid, but if you wanted to win the game more than give penny a chance at some stats, pulling him there was the right move.
.906 season, .841 career
I wonder if they'll give Matt a triple. Even with the throw going home, Matt was basically at thrid when the ball got to the infield.
I think the big question is how much of the bullpen do you trust, and I don't think Grady trusts anyone outside of Broxton and Saito.
LaRoche hitting for Penny. Whew.
What better time for a first major league HR!
We'll take it!
oo, beat me.
But there is a tradgedy here.
Your primary question of the last few days is unanswered. But if Loney and Kemp had 550 abs apiece the season would look very different. How much of a tradgedy this will be is unknown at this point.
But what is the effect of holding back your young players? I think this week may answer.
And I do agree on the BP comment, though with it expanded I think we have some decent options (which do not include Hendrickson). The thing is, Davis was completely shelled that inning. 2 walks, 2 singles and a hard hit LD that was unluckily positioned. Sweeney had a very decent shot there of breaking the game open and letting the bullpen have a small cushion.
Anyway, it worked out. having "worked out" is not my standard for smart decisions, but with 16 games left, I'll take it.
Unfortunately he is a guarantee at this point.
And none of them by me.
I was busy.
Wow, Winn could have made that catch. went right off of his glove.
And yes I will be watching Big Bang Theory with high hopes!
Kudos Sporky for catching that, wow.
The problem is that Eugene Landy isn't the pitching coach.
I always thought Carl was the better singer, though.
LOOGY out to face Giles.
I am rooting against the Stanford batter. Mark it.
Penny was in the on-deck circle. That was bait set by the Dodgers. Arizona didn't take it, obviously. But even pitching to a pinch-hitter is better than taking your chances with Ethier. Remember, Ethier jumped all over a pitch in his previous at-bat that would have scored 2 if not for a great stab by the 1st baseman.
We've still got a ways to go.
So close!
Player of the Game is going to be Petco Park.
It's a rich stew tonight.
I believe the Atlanta Braves general manager is leading off the 10th inning for the Giants.
.910 season, .908 career.
Still one more chance to get closer to Ted Sizemore!
he already does but he goes by the name of Phill Ivey.
Step 1: Buy a Mac.
Step 2: Hit "Option" + 2
The Dodgers should make a lot of ad buys for laxatives in swing states then.
Step 1 was way too easy for you.
I think we fail to take into account that the Giants haven't gotten into last place in the division because they've been unlucky.
They're not very good.
Fertilizer, he says!
DT is really slow tonight; is it just my connection?
Obviously, but they beat us 2/3 when we should have swept. Even though we havded them both games, they still won the games.
{Whew!)
... Replace "day" with "year" and your statement is pretty much on the money as well.
I'm also dangerously close to being like those Sacramento Kings fans who complained about every little thing that happened already in the 2002 WCF.
I don't think I've seen the fans this drunk all year.
I don't think that's ever been the case. Dodger fans show up for anything.
We just don't stay around long.
Because you know, L.A. isn't much of a sports town. We don't have an NFL team after all.
Umm, Greene has 15, 15, 15, and 22 HR in the last 4 years. It's kind of what he does.
Nomar doubles! What year is this?
It'd be like one set of broadcasters out-embarrassing the other.
.902 season, .839 career
Career SLG: .498
Jon, that's your cue.
vr, Xei
Mike Rizzo may be the next interviewed, and Chris Antonelli and Rick Hahn have both declined. I have not seen either White's or Ng's name in the Pittsburgh papers.
Dre!
I can't decide whether to laugh or cry.
Ethier - over matched by the heater as well then gets a curve & hits a screamer as well.
vr, Xei
Loney
Kemp,
Ethier
That's 2-6 nice OBP nice OPS numbers with a lot of growth potential. For the L/r R/l people that's R-L-R-L
I miss Richard X. Slattery to this day.
Didn't Byrnes see Red Dawn? Now he's swallowed the homing device and the Wolverines are doomed.
... Exactly what I thought. Go with the Spirit™, indeed.
Saito hasn't, I really hope the Dodgers use him for 4 outs more often.
Or perhaps one that nobody remembers.
no, I know, I mean just saying for really close games, if the occasion calls for it.
Just reviewed the Greene Walk off
ugh
http://www.variety.com/article/VR1117971880.html
And now a five-out save attempt by Saito-san, huh?
Message to either one: Act like you've been there before.
... I just think it sends a message to the other guys in the bullpen: "You guys can't pitch when it REALLY counts." And, I don't think that's a healthy message to send, especially in light of the fact that when Broxton was brought in with a 5-run lead in Diego, he blew the game in two of his next three outings.
He has looked so pathetic, so weak, for so long, and tonight he belts a home run, he's lining the ball, he's running faster. Seeing him tonite is like night and day compared to how he's looked for months.
The thought I had was that he felt desperate to be the ballplayer he used to be, like in the first three months of 2006,
and so he started taking some type of performance-enhancing substance the last couple days.
I'm sure my thought is wrong, but that is what came to me watching him tonight.
Holy hat! You are correct. Boy if you don't pay attention it's hard to tell the difference.
It really only took ONE AUDITION shot for Jonathan Meloan, really.
.907 season, .906 career
Ted Sizemore just uncorked a bottle of Dom.
Stupid Giants.
Grady definitely had a gingko biloba booster before today's game because he's actually made all the right moves.
What a double play.
Lastly, go see Eastern Promises. Great script, great everything. A few very squirmy scenes, but it's Cronenberg.
Whee!
Can't wait to see it.
Furcal: .351494
Pierre: .351485
Hold off on any hatred until I triple check my math, but the Giants still have a theoretical chance of making the playoffs.
There would be tiebreaker games involved.
If the Dodgers were to hold on in the ninth, the Giants could be eliminated with a Dodgers win tomorrow afternoon.
Two and a half back of Arizona for the division and 1.5 the Padres for the wild card? Am I doing the math right?
And three more with the D'backs, right? This could be a very fun finish...
Let's go Sammy! Just two more.
It would have to involve at least three teams in the NL West.
Oh I have enemies. Trust me. They're all out to get me. I see them everywhere.
I don't even trust my cat.
Froemming is at third base.
One day, Vin will watch "The Office" and he'll think, I bet Eric Byrnes would write a good episode of that.
a complete game would work wonders also, exick

Even after 13 years, the Shawshank Redemption score seems to be very popular (especially in other movies' trailers).
I shoot for the stars, man.
And how 'bout those Dodgers??
Okay, what's with the copyright-html overload here. Did I miss something? Knock it off or your mom and I will withhold all TV for the rest of the weekend!
Watching the rest of the USA women's world cup game now, even though I saw some of it this morning.
night all!
or won! that too! or two!
I'm just afraid the year we didn't play Loney and Kemp is going to turn into the year we didn't play Hu and Laroche in 2008.
Also play Abreu and Young. Or imagine what a small market team might give us in pitching for a couple of free position players like Abreu and Young.
If only Colletti knew how to trade: it could be amazing. As it is we should keep them all.
Well, LaRoche is moving up. He's a decoy (TM) now.
That appears to have already happened, actually, which is fine with me.
I doubt Little and Melvin were thinking of that, but I found it interesting.
That may be the case, but I was looking at the coincidence between the Mexican pitchers and September 16.
Looking at video of Kemps triple, he looks stunned that he hit it fair, then remembers to run, and it looks like he still would have beat a throw to third easily. Kemp among the young group really hasn't played much baseball and I get the impression of a young man realizing, "I can do this stuff and I'm good at it too." What a great story.
The Phillies went up 4.2% which has to be a factor of them playing Washington seven more times.
The plot thickens: September 16 is my wedding anniversary.
But I'm not Mexican.
3.97 K/9
1.15 K/BB
1.56 WHIP
1 HR/6.08 innings
$7 million/year
How do these people keep their jobs?
If you want to call it that
But please, no grito today!
Little peace from the Daily News, man, we got some cheap teams coming to Dodger Stadium in '08, Detroit is pretty good though, so that's cool.
Sounds exhausting Marty, must have been a nice adventure though.
So the Dodgers will play two division champions and a second place team?
The only breather should be against the White Sox.
With those 15 games, I predict that if the Dodgers went 7-8 next year against the AL, they would be doing well.
774 Those are hardly cheap teams. That's nine games against playoff teams, and three more against an AL power (Detroit). Meanwhile, I'll bet the Padres get to pound on the Rangers and Royals, or some other bottom-feeders. I hate interleague play.
Not that I particularly want to play the Yankees, but since 2008 is the final season for Yankee Stadium, it would've been nice if the schedule-makers could've given the Dodgers one last series in the Bronx, just for nostalgia's sake.
Furcal, SS
Pierre, CF
Loney, 1B
Gonzo, LF
Nomar, 3B
Martin, C
Ethier, RF
Abreu, 2B
Lowe, P
And Kemp only had two hits last night, and one was only a triple. So I can understand why he's riding the pine today.
Nomar on the other hand is career .071/.278/.078 in 18 career PAs against Livan
The Big Ten picked a bad year to try to market its own network.
Time for another exciting season of Indiana basketball.
What's the over/under on Kelvin Sampson recruiting violations?
http://www.linkmeister.com/blog/archives/002546.html
The future looks bright and all, but sometimes I just yearn for the days when the Dodgers knew who the best players were and played them. These days being a Dodger fan is akin to repeatedly banging your head against a brick wall.
Notre Dame could go 6-6 and they'd still get considered for a BCS bowl.
OK, only a slight exaggeration.
Since I've only seen Young Mr. Clausen play in high school, I don't think I've ever seen him sacked.
He never got sacked in high school...?
But Miami Dolphins quarterback Trent Green was among those doubting the sincerity of Belichick's apology, comparing the coach to the megalomaniacal Marine played by Jack Nicholson in the movie "A Few Good Men."
"Belichick is sitting there, and you know he is getting peeved that he is even in there the audacity to bring him in and question him," Green said, laughing. "The visual I have is that eventually Belichick kind of snapped and said, 'You're darn right I (did).'"
I find that image somewhat funny.
I'm sure he did, but probably not very often. Clausen's high school team, Oaks Christian High, tended to play pretty low-level opponents and usually won games by 40-50 points.
When Clausen made his first official recruiting trip to Notre Dame, he and teammate Marc Tyler (who is at USC), just left at halftime of a game. And that was planned.
Oaks Christian was playing in Fillmore that night, so it's not like they were particularly close to an airport.
I'm very happy about this whole thing.
I've never been home to see a Notre Dame game on TV. And I'm not home today.
I will wait until October 6.

6 in that thread was impressively prophetic.
