Happy New year all.
Naturally, I'm thrilled, but...?
Saw a few tumbleweeds rolling around, which got me wondering...where can I see pre-uprooted tumbleweeds? Are they ever green?
It's almost sad that I know Wikipedia will know the answer. I resolve in '08 not to look up every idle curious thought in Wikipedia.
The Tournament of Roses has a trademark on "Granddaddy of Them All" I believe.

You can see tumbleweeds before they tumble a lot. It's a weed called Russian thistle.

There is a lot of it growing on the hills near Elysian Park by the 110 Freeway. Sometimes those turn into tumbleweeds that roll through Downtown. It quite disturbed someone new to the area to see that.
Also, some frickin' citizen parallel parked in front of my driveway.....I called 5 Oh to tow the sucka away, and now that I'm home I'll never know if it was towed or just left.....We did some nice drawings on the winshield dust, but still I am upset...

But it's baseball, which has paid nearly $18 million over the last four years, that allowed the Hillenbrands to pursue their other passions. And it's why, at age 32 and coming off a season in which he played a career-low 73 games for the Dodgers and Angels, hitting a career-low four homers and batting a lifetime-worst .251, Hillenbrand isn't ready to pack it in just yet.
He says he has been working out all winter and though he has had feelers from just one club, the San Francisco Giants, he's confident the phone will begin ringing in the next couple of weeks.
"Something will come up," he says. "I've got about 10 years to go."
Can you tell I'm not enamored of this "tradition?"
Hauoli Makahiki Hou, everyone!
