Dodgers 10, Reds 0.

Here's a link to the Dodger Thoughts game chat that night. What a happy crew ...

* * *

Jose Cruz, Jr. bids farewell to the Dodgers by being designated for assignment. The Dodgers have until August 10, the anniversary of his Dodger debut, to trade or release him.

Cruz OPSed 1.004 last September. That didn't hold up this year, not surprisingly, though he did have a .942 OPS in 80 plate appearances against lefties this season.

16 Definitely an issue, but overload for me comes from a lot of little things that add up, not just one factor by itself. With email being so prevalent now, there is just more communication now than there used to be. The reason so many are unread is I have to disconnect and get work done.

Arroyo is backwards because he doesn't trust his fastball for some reason. He throws far too many off-speed pitches and if a team is patient they can crush him.

62 -- When I was a little kid, and blockbuster trades, particularly involving the Yankees and the K.C. A's, were not uncommon, I used to wonder which team I would root for if all 25 Dodgers were traded for, say, all 25 Reds. It was a difficult question for a child to ponder, and I could never come up with a satisfactory answer. I was just glad it didn't happen. However, looking at the Dodgers' active roster now, which I believe includes only three players who were with them prior to 2005 -- Carrara, Saenz and Penny -- I guess the question has sort of been answered.

I think that's a problem a lot of people don't understand...they just expect Drew to do it every time. The opposing pitcher usually isn't dumb enough to give him a lot to hit with men in scoring position and less than two outs. Walk him, take your chances with eithier...

There is no substantive reason for drawing the line on the other side of Guzman. That was an entirely arbitrary, circular decision borne out of the necessity of drafting a press release that the dodgers were picking up a "slugger." (consider this the refutation of your bogus strawman argument as well)

The dodgers picked up a nobody, for no reason, with no purpose but to make an absurd distinction without a difference on both sides of the trade. It is as of today, a disaster, always will be, and it doesn't matter if lugo gets ten atbats, 100, or 1000.

Best pastrami in LA is at Brent's Deli in Northridge. Canter's and Langer's are also worthy options, but Jerry's is an abomination.

If you're ever in NYC, don't even give Roxie's, Stage, or Carnegie Delis a second thought and head straight to Katz's on the Lower East Side.

Has Furcal climbed out of Steve's useless well yet?

He has the highest salary and lowest OPS of any shortstop on the team (which is saying a lot...)

387 Probably not, unless Lucille II is playing for some reason.

I just realized, of our 13 hitters on the 25 man roster, only Hall has an OPS under .700. Ledee's the closest to .700, at .723. And Lofton just lowered his to .724, barely missing Ledee's mark.

393 You know who can't wait to get back here, the guy who went 4-4 in Vegas yesterday.

My bold prediction is that if he is still hitting like that in 2 weeks, the Dodgers won't wait for September to call him back.

What's the word with Kyle Orr?

Orr is signed don't worry. Work Visas are just hard to get and he wants to play for his national team so he will be here by setempber instructionals.

from pgcrosschecker.com

The Dodgers have reportedly agreed to terms on their fourth-round pick, first baseman Kyle Orr, the first Canadian selected this year. The contract is reportedly for $450,000. The Dodgers are not in any hurry to announce the deal, however, as they have no open visa slots for foreign players and Orr wouldn't be able to begin playing until instructional league.

Hey Sam, how are the DC folk gauging the probability of re-signing Soriano?

And are they on the hunt for Bowden effigies? I bet Bob can get them a good deal.

425 Reaction all over the map, but most tend to think Bowden was reasonable in setting a high price and sticking to it. Two draft picks plus a competitive team for the rest of the summer isn't so bad. Boswell has an interesting column at washingtonpost.com if you're really interested about some of management's possible motives.

My opinion is that only crazy people think DC will be able to re-sign Soriano. But those aren't hard to find around here.

Kent is an old grumpy man who is a cancer in the clubhouse, a strain on the payroll, and a pylon in the field. He should be traded to the Red Sox for Rudy Seanez.

Next year's lineup?

2. Martin C
3. Drew RF
4. Ethier LF
5. Betemit 2B
6. Kemp/Edmonds CF (insurance in case Kemp and/or Ethier slump)
