Here's a link to the Dodger Thoughts game chat that night. What a happy crew ...

Jose Cruz, Jr. bids farewell to the Dodgers by being designated for assignment. The Dodgers have until August 10, the anniversary of his Dodger debut, to trade or release him.
Cruz OPSed 1.004 last September. That didn't hold up this year, not surprisingly, though he did have a .942 OPS in 80 plate appearances against lefties this season.

They might as well left their gloves at home.
That's still a good trade.
Four words: laptop and wireless connection.
regairfield can you send me an e-mail because I'm feeling somewhat lonely?
What am I, chopped liver...?
I read an article recently about the challenge that email has presented to those in academia, who are suddenly "reachable" to their students 24/7.
Only one of them e-mailed me. They seem to prefer calling me up.
Very odd.
Maybe they like your voice...
I'm not Bob Edwards, but one of my brothers is going to be made a Kentucky Colonel soon!
Or Dave Ross at catcher...
*though
or just put you're computer/desk next to the tube.
I'll feel right at home.
You mean like, three up three down...?
cr
That was a fun game.
I hope that was sarcasm.
At least I don't think we have
Whoa-you have a chance to get to a guy like this in the first and don't. He's a vet right hander who gets <1hit an inning and twice as many strikeouts as walks. We may have said goodnight.
3 unproductive outs....not a good start. Ethier and Lugo didn't even need to get hits, just move the runners.
Gotta thing for that fella?
nah I'm just use too him with a stash, even in his ESPN days.
Thanks
Not bad
The same can not be said of Monday and Ruess.
And I think he looks less bad with the mustache.
Just let them swing away and hope you get lucky...nothing worse than that...bunting really isn't that difficult.
There is a bandwagon for that right?
There is a bandwagon for that right?*
No! a very firm no! (thank god) :o)
ok
cool
I have Dunn on my keeper fantasy team..so I've been wondering that for a couple years now.
Must be something in the water over there in Cincy.
You wonder how great Drew would be if he could hit that drive when he came up w/ men on 2nd and 3rd. Then again they prob. gave him nothing to hit.
I'm liking this guy more and more.
Sorry, I don't know what came over me.
Maybe I'm just sitting too far away from my computer screen but it looks to me like DL Hughley is playing 3B for us.
I think that's a problem a lot of people don't understand...they just expect Drew to do it every time. The opposing pitcher usually isn't dumb enough to give him a lot to hit with men in scoring position and less than two outs. Walk him, take your chances with eithier...
Now if only my pitching could do a little better...
We should be be doing that more often.
We should be doing that more often.
[chuckles]
not because of this hit.
Every Dodger position player has a hit except for Lugo.
So, 25 times nine equals... Something out of Oakland's Billy Martin era.
137 Lucky you. I started Arroyo tonight... With the way he's been pitching lately, it looks like he's gonna be DFA'd pretty soon.
And by pretty soon, I mean, as soon as this game's over.
Lofton singles on a soft line drive
From the Nats chat site:
"Hee Seop Choi was DFAd! Grab him!
I think he has an option left, and he could take over for Ward next season."
[need new sarcasm battery] ;O)
Please somebody realize that defense can be very important. Nice play Loney.
pitch 1- called strike
pitch 2- called strike
pitch 3- ball
pitch 4- in play, no out recorded
Double to right off Vargas
There's his hit for the next three weeks.
Not from lack of effort, just takes time to learn to throw strikes.
And that's on the GameDay, not even on tv or anything.
Yeah, effort was not the right word to use.
The only thing farcical is claiming that Guzman is still an elite prospect. And nobody said Lugo was a .900 hitter. I'll take straw men for 1000, Alex.
Number of pages devoted to Daryle Ward in Dodgers' 2003 media guide 3 1/3.
Number of extra-base hits Daryle Ward had in 52 games with Dodgers in 2003 one.
Not so much that a home run was hit, as who hit it.
Its ex- Dodgers day!
I just investigated & came to the conclusion that he looks normal.
do you expect him to swat it into the ground every time? He got a little under it, no biggie.
I do. :o)
The dodgers picked up a nobody, for no reason, with no purpose but to make an absurd distinction without a difference on both sides of the trade. It is as of today, a disaster, always will be, and it doesn't matter if lugo gets ten atbats, 100, or 1000.

I speak French and have no idea what you're talking about.
These shifts are so ridiculously stupid.
yes.
Interesting development. I hope DeWitt improves his defense.
well it I was watching the commercial of "before the bigs" of Eric Gagne & they asked him what he wanted to be when he grew up & he said "lansar" in spanish that means pitch. so I figured it meant the same in french.
Eric Gagne has been with the club since 2002,
Sure Gagne was a completely different pitcher in 99-01, but was he that different?
It does, but it is spelled "lancer".
you're probably right. A lot of words in French and Spanish are very similar. I speak English, French, and Swedish so sometimes it can get a little difficult remembering everything haha.
Sorry Bob, that one went way! passed me.
However, he could be governor of California. You just need to be 18.
There's a Congressman in the San Diego area who was recently elected with the last name of "Bilbray"

This new one with the pastrami makes me want to turn into the Hulk or something.
it may not matter.
me & pastrami don't mix.
Let's see how far the sarcasm train can go.
I'm contrarian like that.
gotta disagree...I go with Canter's
No question about Langers! It is the best Pastrami by far.
cr
cr
I tasted pastrami when I was a kid.(no lye) that's about it.
The Dodgers better win. Or millions of puppies will die!
If you're ever in NYC, don't even give Roxie's, Stage, or Carnegie Delis a second thought and head straight to Katz's on the Lower East Side.
A bicoastal pastrami-off between Katz's and Brent's would be a wonder to behold.

He needs to build up his arm strength. I think he'll do well pitching in the AL.
I would think that someone who pinch hits a lot would find it hard to go up to the plate with the bases loaded and try to get a walk. You want to swing.
Not everyone can be Elmer Valo.
Or we could talk about Loco Moco. ;)
Even Darryl Strawberry?
pastrami tends to give heart attacks to millions of americans.
Actually I like Tomko in this role. His contract stinks, but we might be able to get a little bit of production out him coming out of the bullpen.
Good point. Elmer Valo! Wow. Thanks for the flashback. Only Czechoslovakian ever to play in the majors. (And there is no more Czechoslovakia). I saw him get a pinch-hit double or triple for the Dodgers in the Coliseum a million years ago. I think it won the game. It was sometime in the middle of the Cold War.
There are probably New York hole in the wall places that are better. Probably.
he toped out at 95. with a good curve to strike out Dunn.
you really have to look at the batter, to see what kind of "95" type fastball a pitcher has.IMO
Is Porteguese sausage like chorizo?
Pleased to follow Marty's " x' " up with a " z' " though.
Aybar 0-4 with a walk

It's like Italian in that it can be jazzed up to be really hot or really sweet. It goes well with eggs.
I couldn't remember if he counts as a shortstop or not.
Red Sox designated first baseman Hee-Seop Choi for assignment.
Choi has missed a month at Triple-A Pawtucket with a knee injury and wasn't hitting before he got hurt, so there's little doubt that he'll get through waivers.
Oh how the mighty have fallen
The AL could see some jersey changes.
Loney's glove & bat look like rock stars.
Loney's glove & bat look like rock stars.
Loney's glove & bat look like rock stars.
But not to be....
Is that a triple double?
Why? Did you violate the Patriot Act?
Yes, and beofre anybody enjoys this winning streak, keep in mind that we lost 5 games ago.
Probably. I'll be visiting family in Redding and Dunsmuir, as well as in central Oregon.
He has the highest salary and lowest OPS of any shortstop on the team (which is saying a lot...)
I just realized, of our 13 hitters on the 25 man roster, only Hall has an OPS under .700. Ledee's the closest to .700, at .723. And Lofton just lowered his to .724, barely missing Ledee's mark.
My bold prediction is that if he is still hitting like that in 2 weeks, the Dodgers won't wait for September to call him back.
Redding is not the place to be in August.
thanks-thought it was more then 3 inning.
Or any of the other 11 months.
What's the word with Kyle Orr?
I think there is a rodeo sometime in the fall.
Orr is signed don't worry. Work Visas are just hard to get and he wants to play for his national team so he will be here by setempber instructionals.
from pgcrosschecker.com
The Dodgers have reportedly agreed to terms on their fourth-round pick, first baseman Kyle Orr, the first Canadian selected this year. The contract is reportedly for $450,000. The Dodgers are not in any hurry to announce the deal, however, as they have no open visa slots for foreign players and Orr wouldn't be able to begin playing until instructional league.
You seem to prefer winning over losing. Tell me more...
And are they on the hunt for Bowden effigies? I bet Bob can get them a good deal.
My opinion is that only crazy people think DC will be able to re-sign Soriano. But those aren't hard to find around here.
True, but I wouldn't put it past them.
It's a shame. I'd like Soriano to re-sign. I think most baseball fans are rooting for the Nats to be competitive.
Ive heard that Akins is going to go to Riverside CC so he could be our big money draft and follow guy.
Sign White this summer, sign Akins next May.
434 Just one, ground out to third by the Arroyo.
You do the math.
Was Ramirez considered a prospect this off season? Because if he was, BA didn't place him in Cincinnati's top 10 prospects.
Next year's lineup?
1. Furcal SS
2. Martin C
3. Drew RF
4. Ethier LF
5. Betemit 2B
6. Kemp/Edmonds CF (insurance in case Kemp and/or Ethier slump)
7. Loney 1B
8. LaRoche 3B
It was Czechoslovakia from 1918 to 1992. Not sure which 3 players you are referring to or when they were born.
